A note from the Head…

19 APRIL 2024

I hope that everyone enjoyed a lovely break. The girls have seemed excited to be back in school and are looking forward to all that lies ahead this term. It is a busy time, as ever, so please do keep an eye on our calendar, included at the end of each Newsletter.

Last night we held our Primary Division Open Evening, welcoming visitors who were interested in looking around Hesketh House. A particular thank you to our Year 6 Ambassadors, who kindly acted as guides and showed our guests around school.

Finally, a reminder that general queries should be directed to the Hesketh House office 01204 434761 or juniorgirls@boltonschool.org.uk. Please do not use staff email addresses for urgent messages, as these may not be checked as regularly, particularly if a member of staff is out of school for some reason. Please could we also ask that you include your daughter’s name and form on any emails.

Inspection Report

I know that many Hesketh House families have connections to the Boys’ Division and to the Boys' Juniors, and that many more of you enjoy hearing of the wider success of the schools within the Bolton School Foundation. In February 2024, the Boys' Division and Park Road were inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), who assessed both schools as having met all five of the standards evaluated, and identified their programmes of extra-curricular and outdoor learning activities as being a 'significant strength', a plaudit which recognises the Foundation's national leadership in this area of education, and places it in a highly select group of schools to have achieved such a commendation.

On behalf of everyone at Hesketh House, I send my congratulations to the staff and pupils of the Boys' Division and Park Road following this tremendous report, the full version of which can be read here

Book Fair – Spring Term

Thank you to everyone who supported our recent Book Fair. In addition to girls enjoying buying new books to read, we earned an amazing £904 in commission, which we can spend on new books for our classrooms and library.

Last term the girls took part in the Bebras Challenge, which introduces computational thinking to students all over the world. Over 3 million students from more than 80 countries participated! In the UK, the challenge is open to students aged 6 to 19. Each participant has 45 minutes to tackle a series of interactive tasks, designed to encourage logical thinking and problem-solving skills appropriate for their age group.

All of the girls who took part will receive a certificate, but there are special awards for ‘Best in School’ in each age category. Particular congratulations to our top scorers:

With rounds on maths, music and monuments, to name but a few, they enjoyed competing against other AJIS schools Well done!

House Day

Monday 25 March

In the last week of the Spring Term, girls once again enjoyed working in their Houses, on a variety of activities closely linked to our Hesketh Habits. These includedsessions in art, dance and poetry, an eco-workshop and some off-site outdoor learning, all based on the theme of woodlands. They particularly welcomed the opportunity to work with pupils from across the school, getting to know those in other classes and year groups better.

There are lots of images on X, but here are a few of our favourites…

Easter Egg Hunt

Wednesday 27 March

Thank you to our School Council for organising a wonderful Easter Egg Hunt around the school on the last day of term. Taking on board this popular suggestion from a number of girls, the School Council carefully crafted an ‘eggciting’ trail which provided clues to complete an Easter message. All their hard work was rewarded by the sight and sounds of every year group as they explored each nook and cranny in aquest tosolve the puzzle. Well done girls, what a fantastic success!

Music Demonstration

Wednesday 27 March

Many thanks to Erin and Annie who kindly performed for us in our final assembly last term – they were both brilliant, and really impressed us with their musical skills! If your daughter is interested in taking up music lessons within school, please look through our Visiting Music Teachers brochure here for further details. If you have any questions about individual music lessons at school, please contact Mr Forgrieve, ikf@boltonschool.org.
