A note from the Head…

I hope that you enjoyed a restful half term break, the girls certainly seem to have returned to school refreshed and raring to go! As usual, we have plenty of activities and events over the rest of this term, so please do keep your eye on our diary, which is always included towards the end of the Newsletter.

Severe Weather Arrangements

A copy of the Severe Weather Arrangements can be found here. The key points are that information will be posted on the front page of the school website (www.boltonschool.org), usually by 7.00am. You will also be sent an email, and news often first appears on School X Accounts such as @Philip_Britton, @sfboltonschool, @BSPDJnrGirls.

Pupil Achievements

This week we celebrated individual achievements in fencing, football, horse-riding, netball, skiing and swimming and also the awarding of a rare ‘Green’ Blue Peter Badge

If your daughter is awarded trophies or certificates in activities outside of school, please encourage her to sign up for the Achievement Assembly on a Thursday. We can’t always put everything in the Newsletter, but do like to hear about and celebrate the girls’ successes.

Uniform

Just areminder that coats should beplain black and shoes should have straps or laces, slip on shoes are not allowed. The weather is rather unpredictable at the moment, so please make sure that your daughterhas her coat with her in School every day. Could you also please check that all items of uniform are clearly named? Thank you

The girls enjoyed a friendly match against Our Lady of Grace during their chess club this week. With the EPSCA Competition coming up at the weekend, it was a wonderful opportunity for these girls to get in some extra practice!

Patterdale Hall Information Evening

Tuesday 5 March – Thursday 7 March

The Book Fair will be in school from Tuesday 5 March until the end of the day on Thursday 7 March, World Book Day. Girls will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their class to purchase books. We will also open on Tuesday 5 March and Wednesday 6 March 4.00pm – 4.30pm, in case parents want to pop in too. Pupils are asked to make payments in cash please. Parents, if accompanying your daughter after school, payments may be made by credit or debit card.

World Book Day (WBD) 2024

It's World Book Day next

Thursday 7 March and we will be celebrating the privilege of reading andbooks. Hopefully the girls have some great ideas for costumes! They have also been asked to bring in a fabulous book from home to share on World Book Day with their friends in class.Itcan be anysortof book. Toensure it is doesn't get lost, they should pick up a bookmark from their classroom and pop it inside their book so that they can keep it safe and take it home again that evening.

Parent Consultation Evenings

Following Mrs Woodhead’s email which was sent on Tuesday, please do not forget that the Parents’ Evening booking system for the Spring Term Parents’ Evenings will go live at 1.00pm on Monday 4 March. Please book your online or face to face appointments with your daughter’s teacher at your earliest convenience.

Thursday 14 March, 7.00pm, Leverhulme Suite

There will be an Information Evening on Thursday 14 March when we will be giving pupils and parents more details about what to expect on this trip. We would particularly recommend that you attend if your child has not been to Patterdale Hall before. More information has been sent by email.

The dates of our visits are as follows:

Year 3 Tuesday 7 May – Wednesday 8 May

Year 4 Monday 13 May – Wednesday 15 May

Year 5 Wednesday 15 May – Friday 17 May

Year 6 Monday 22 April – Friday 26 April

All pupils are expected to take part in these trips, and we are now in the final planning stages for our visits. Please could we remind you to complete the consent form onParentPortal byMonday 11March at the latest. The Consent to Administer Medicine forms can also be found in the Parent Portal.

Year 6 Bikeability

6G Monday 13, Tuesday 14 May

6F Wednesday 15, Thursday 16 May

Year 6 girls will have the opportunity to take part in Bolton Council’s Bikeability programme early in the summer term. More information has been sent home, a copy of the letter can be found here and the consent form is here. Consent forms should be returned to school by the end of this term, Wednesday 27 March, if you wish your daughter to take part.

Plant Sale

Deadline 31 March

Details of the annual Friends of Bolton School plant sale are now available. We are delighted to say that there have been no price increases this year. The quality of our plants is well recognised and it would be wonderful if you wouldsupport this popular event and help make it even bigger. Orders should be placed before the end of March and plants will be available for collection from Saturday 11 May. Message from the BD Parents’ Association Summer Festival - Save the Date!

The Bolton School Summer Festival will take place on Sunday 23 June 2024. It will be an afternoon of activities for all ages, open to all Bolton School families as well as the wider community. Junior Bake Off

We have received the following information from the producers of Junior Bake Off, who are looking for children who are budding young bakers. Applicants must be between 9 and 12 years old during the period from 1 June2024 to30 September 2024. Congratulations to our hockey players whomade it to the final of the Plate Competition in the AJIS Hockey Tournament earlier this week. They lost in the final to Rossall School, but were very pleased with their achievements over the course of the day. Importantly, Mrs Faulkner reports that their attitude and sportsmanship was excellent and they really developed their hockey skills. Well done!
