HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 26 JANUARY 2024

A note from the Head… The term is now well underway and things are settling down nicely at Hesketh House. We have a busy time ahead, with a wide variety of events and several visitors coming in to school to pass on their knowledge and expertise. Please do keep your eye on our diary, included in every Newsletter. This week in assemblies we launched the Bolton School Earthshot Competition, and talked to the girls about what is involved; a little more information is on the flyer here. We will have further discussions with them over the coming weeks and hope that they will all be keen to take part. Entries should be sent by email to Mrs Bass sbass@boltonschool.org by Sunday 3 March. There will be prizes for the best posters in each year group. Good luck – get your thinking caps on! To find out about the Global Earthshot Prize more generally, and for inspiration, follow the link here: https://earthshotprize.org/the-prize/earthshots/ Mrs C Laverick Contacting the School Office Please contact the Hesketh House school office with any general messages by telephone 01204 434761 or email juniorgirls@boltonschool.org.uk. Please include your daughter’s name and form in any emails so that they can be dealt with efficiently. If the phone rings out this generally means that someone is on another line – please do leave a message on the answer machine and we will get back to you if necessary. Individual Music Lessons If you are interested in your child taking up music lessons within school, please look through our Visiting Music Teachers brochure here for further details. If you have any questions about individual music lessons at school, please contact Mr Forgrieve, ikf@boltonschool.org.

Hesketh House PA Movie Night Wednesday 14 February, 4.15pm – 6.00pm

World Book Day (WBD) 2024 Thursday 7 March

The PA are organising a Movie Night on Wednesday 14 February, with the popular ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ film a perfect choice for Valentine’s Day. A flyer has been sent home with the girls, a copy can be found here.

Create a character role for yourself for WBD. We invite you to come to school dressed as any character from fiction, non-fiction or poetry. Start thinking about who or what you could be. Collectively we will create a colourful array of characters!

The girls will stay in school at the end of the day, and gather in the Hesketh House Hall to watch the movie, with refreshments provided by the PA. Collection will be 6.00pm from Hesketh House and parking will be available in the Dobson Road Car Park and Upper Tudor Avenue Car Park. Kidzone Half Term Holiday Club The programme of activities and booking information can be found here. BSSL February Sports Camp BSS Leisure are also running activities during the half term holiday, more information is here. Book Fair Tuesday 5 March – Thursday 7 March The Book Fair will be in school from Tuesday 5 March until the end of the day on Thursday 7 March, World Book Day. Girls will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their class to purchase books. We will also open on Wednesday 6 March and Thursday 7 March 4.00pm – 4.30pm, in case parents want to pop in too. Pupils are asked to make payments in cash please. Parents, if accompanying your daughter after school, payments may be made by credit or debit card.

In addition to dressing up, bring a book from home to school on World Book Day, to share with your friends and classmates. It might be a story book, a non-fiction title, a quiz book. poetry book or an annual or comic. Won’t it be fun to share your books with others? All we ask is that you take a bookmark template from your classroom (your teacher will have these), write your name and class on it and pop it inside your book from home so that it won’t get mislaid and can be safely returned to you at the end of the day. All girls will receive a £1 WBD voucher, which can be used to part purchase for any book at the Book Fair. A book costing £5 at the Book Fair will cost you £4 if you use your voucher. We will give you these vouchers before half term. The £1 vouchers can also be used in any bookstore to buy specially commissioned books written for World Book Day. Uniform Just a reminder that coats should be plain black and shoes should have straps or laces, slip on shoes are not allowed. Boots may be worn in the event of bad weather, but girls are expected to change in to their regular school shoes once inside the building. Please make sure that your daughter has her coat with her in school every day, as we do try to get outside at breaktimes whenever possible. Could you also please check that all items of uniform are clearly named? Thank you Social Media – X Please follow us @BSPDJnrGirls, @BSPDMFL and @BoltonSch.
