HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 2 FEBRUARY 2024
A note from the Head… This week we enjoyed a thought-provoking assembly from Mr Britton, Head of Foundation. He spoke about making sure you took all opportunities to try new things and stressed the importance of enjoying experiences, rather than focusing on whether you were particularly good at them or not.
Author Talk Helen Rutter Tuesday 30 January Year 5 and Year 6 girls joined the boys at Park Road for a talk from visiting author Helen Rutter earlier this week. From the very beginning, Helen had us completely absorbed as she demonstrated our willingness to be socially compliant. It was fascinating to learn about her latest character, Reggie Houser, who, despite struggling with ADHD, discovers that he has a hidden talent – he is able to hypnotise people! Parents, please be warned, as Helen taught us a few clever tricks on how to use mind control on family and friends! It was clear that she has inspired some budding authors amongst us. Helen also signed copies of her books for some of the girls.
Mr Britton also talked about how often we are so busy doing lots of activities that we can let this define us. Sometimes we should just focus on ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’ and learn to be comfortable with ourselves and the person we are, rather than worrying about our various achievements. He left us with much to think about! Mrs C Laverick Social Media – X Please follow us @BSPDJnrGirls, @BSPDMFL and @BoltonSch. Individual Music Lessons If you are interested in your child taking up music lessons within school, please look through our Visiting Music Teachers brochure here for further details. If you have any questions about individual music lessons at school, please contact Mr Forgrieve, ikf@boltonschool.org.
Quiz Club Competition Wednesday 31 January On Wednesday, our talented Quiz Club teams took part in the area heats of the national competition, competing with other schools from around the country. Their knowledge was tested on a wide range of subjects from across and beyond the curriculum. They also had to consider the best strategy for their team to maximise the points they earned in each round which was a great opportunity to communicate and collaborate. All the teams represented the school admirably and had great fun! Our Year 6 team members will take part in a further competition later this term.
