HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 30 SEPTEMBER 2022

A note from the Head… It has been incredibly busy at Hesketh House this week! Our extra-curricular programme is now fully up and running and the girls have really enjoyed the opportunity to try out some new activities as well as continuing to develop previous interests. Year 5 and Year 6 girls have also been involved in two cross country events and two netball matches this week, more details are included later in the Newsletter. On Tuesday we had our Primary Division photograph taken, which was an exciting occasion for the children, and quite a historic one for our new Primary Division. All of Hesketh House came together on Thursday morning for a special assembly to celebrate the European Day of Languages and Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 girls also enjoyed a talk from author Cressida Cowell. Finally, we were delighted to see our Hesketh Habits Mosaic finally up on the wall in our reception area. Everyone who was in school during the last academic year will have contributed to this stunning piece of artwork – please do come and admire it when you get the opportunity!

Primary Division Photograph Tuesday 27 September Fortunately, the weather stayed fine for our Primary Division photograph, which was taken on Tuesday 27 September. Details about how to order a copy of the picture will be sent out in due course.

European Day of Languages Celebrated Thursday 29 September Yesterday, the whole of Hesketh House came together to sing a Spanish Song Señora Eccleshare had written, ‘I am a Rocket’, in celebration of the European Day of Languages. The song is all about positivity: be a ‘Rocket’, aim high and fly high to achieve anything we set our minds to. The girls made microphones of positivity and as you can see in the pictures, they enjoyed singing through them! Señora Eccleshare was extremely proud of their singing, especially Year 3s who have only been learning Spanish for a few weeks. Please follow our Primary Languages Twitter feed @BSPDJnrGirlsMFL Gracias!

Author Talk – Cressida Cowell Thursday 29 September

Open Morning Saturday 8 October

Year 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a lively talk by author Cressida Cowell on Thursday. Cressida explained how she came to be an author and talked a lot about her books and some of the characters she had created. She was a real inspiration!

We will be opening our doors to the public on Saturday 8 October from 9.30am for our annual Open Morning. As ever, we are always grateful for the support of pupils on this day, who help out in so many different ways. If you know of any families that you think might be interested in learning more about us, do please alert them to the event. We are asking that enquirers pre-register their attendance at boltonschool.org/openday. Parents’ Association Meeting Wednesday 12 October, Arts Centre 7.00pm

Year 4 Trip to Bolton Museum Tuesday 4 October Year 4 girls will be visiting Bolton Museum on Tuesday 4 October, as part of their study of life in Ancient Egypt. An email with more information has been sent to parents this week. National Poetry Day Thursday 6 October To celebrate we will start the day with a poetry themed assembly and throughout the day the teachers will suggest how the girls can enjoy reading and writing poetry. The theme for this year’s National Poetry Day is THE ENVIRONMENT, and that means us thinking about and taking better care of the earth. What environment-based topic could you choose? Trees? Rivers? Forests? The seas? Water? The sky? Or even the earth itself?

Developing good relationships with our parents is something we work very hard on across the Primary Division and our Parents' Associations have always been an integral part of that. As you may know, in each of the three PD schools; Beech House, Hesketh House and Park Road, our Parents' Associations are experiencing a period of change as those who previously served on the PA committees have moved on, either to a new part of the Primary Division or to Boys' or Girls' Division. This, coupled with what we appreciate to be the increased pressures on our parents' time, suggests that this is a good time to consider how we might restructure the PAs in order to make the best use of the time, expertise and enthusiasm of our whole parent body in order to develop fund-raising and social opportunities which benefit our children and parents. We would welcome the views and suggestions of all of our parents and as such, invite you to attend a meeting to discuss the future organisation of our Parents' Associations. This will be held in the Arts Centre at 7.00pm on Wednesday 12 October. In order to allow us to plan logistics for this meeting I would be grateful if you could register your intention to attend via the Google form link below, prior to Monday 10 October. If you are unable to attend but have any suggestions you would like to put forward for consideration these can also be recorded via the Google form. https://forms.gle/BA65FbAwtFpmZk2j9
