HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER
3 MAY 2024
A note from the Head…
It has been another busy week at Hesketh House, as ever, and the next few weeks hold a great deal of excitement with the upcoming Patterdale Hall trips for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 and Bikeability for Year 6. We have the Hulton Lecture and visit from a Polar Explorer next week, plenty of fixtures and competitions and all of the girls will be taking their exams in the next two weeks as well.
There will be tests for all pupils in English and Mathematics. Although we want the girls to take these seriously, please don’t let them get too anxious about it. The papers are sent away for marking and results are shared with parents when we get them back, usually a week or two after the half term break.
The PA have asked me to draw your attention to the Bolton School Summer Festival, on Sunday 23 June – more details are included later in the Newsletter. The last day for Early Bird discount prices is 10 May, https://www.trybooking.com/uk/DGOA
Finally, Miss Hussain and her husband were delighted this week to announce the arrival of their first child, a baby girl, Haya Abdullah. We all send them our very best wishes!
Mrs C Laverick

Shakespeare’s Birthday Tuesday 23 April
To celebrate Shakespeare's birthday on Tuesday 23 April, girls in Year 4 examined facts about his life in a biography comprehension and an interview. They enjoyed learning about the themes of revenge, forgiveness and magic by reading an abridged version of the story ‘The Tempest’ and when watching an animated version of the play.
Year 4 are going to select a ‘Shakespeare Eleven’ football team using Shakespearean characters and have consulted an expert in the game to help them make their player selections. When they have considered characters' attributes and made their final selection we will let you know!
Cub Camp Friday 26 to Sunday 28 April
Some of the girls went on CubCamp last weekend, and enjoyed a fabulous couple of nights away. They were in Lytham and took part in all sorts of activities, including spending a beautiful Saturday on the beach in the sunshine.

HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER
3 MAY 2024
Next Tuesday we will be holding the now annual Hulton Lecture. This fascinating event is compulsory for all Year 6 pupils but all parents are welcome to attend and bring along their younger children if they wish. The event begins at 5.00pm in the Boys’ Division Great Hall and will last for approximately one hour, with refreshments available in the Leverhulme Suite afterwards.
This year’s lecture is being given by old girl Alisha Whitehead. After leaving School in 2011, Alisha gained her first degree in Psychology and went on to complete a Masters of Science in Clinical Neurology at The University of Sheffield. She went on to work in the NHS delivering clinical trials to patients affected by neurological diseases, this saw her progress into research trial management. Alisha’s current role allowed her to become the centre manager for a new brain research centre spanning Greater Manchester. The centre looks to rapidly facilitate bench to bedside clinical trials and to have a direct impact on patient care and patient pathways, for those living with neurological disorders.
