A note from the Head…
It has been much quieter in school this week, with Year 3 pupils away at Patterdale on Tuesday and Wednesday and Year 4, 5 and 6 focussing on their examinations. Year 3 will take their tests next week. The test papers are sent away for marking and results are shared when we get them back, usually a couple of weeks after the half term break.
We did have a very exciting start to the day today, with the Parents’ Association Breakfast Club. The girls are also looking forward to the Coronation Celebration later in the day, with our special lunch. We will tell you more about these in our next Newsletter.
Next week we return to our usual busy schedule with Year 6 Bikeability, a talk by a Polar explorer, a visit to the recycling centre for our Eco Committee and then Cub Camp at the weekend.
In the remaining two weeks of this half term, we have the Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 trips to Patterdale Hall, several swimming galas and also the Year 6 Careers Afternoon and AJIS Proms. There are also several sporting fixtures and competitions. Please do keep an eye on our diary towards the end of the Newsletter.
Finally, we are lucky to get an extra Bank Holiday this weekend, for the King’s Coronation. We know from the girls that some of you have special events planned and we hope that your celebrations go well.

Pupil Absence
We have seen across the Divisions this year a notable increase in requests for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. Parents should note that schools are required to monitor all such absence, and that this monitoring can be used to spot patterns and discern trends. By law, we cannot grant absences for holidays in term time except in exceptional circumstances. Such circumstances are expected to be rare, and do not include having to work around flight times or other logistical arrangements. Please note that for any request to be authorised, permission must be granted in advance. This means that a letter on the day of the absence ora phone call when a holiday is extended cannot be authorised and instead has to be recorded officially as unauthorised. As well as the obvious disruption to your child’s education that absence creates, the number of unauthorised absences becomes a matter of record and can be subject to action beyond the School in accordance with legislation governing the responsibility of parents to ensure the education of their children.
