A note from the Head…
It was lovely to see the girls back in school this week, full of energy and enthusiasm for all that lies ahead. There are many events over the rest of the term, so please do keep an eye on the calendar, which is always included towards the end of each Newsletter.

Pupil Achievements
Congratulations to Tullah who is a member of the Hallé Children’s Choir, and has recently has taken part in the MacMillan Concert in celebrationoftheretirementof Sir Mark Elder. He conducted all 350 members of all the Hallé choirs with full orchestra in two concerts at the Bridgewater Hall last week, and will be conducting them for his final time before his retirement at the Royal Albert Hall, London, in July. What a special thing for Tullah to be a part of – well done!

Dragon’s Den
Wednesday 22, Thursday 23 May
Year 5 girls spent some time before half term assisting Year 9 in their ‘Dragon’s Den’ activity. They formed focus groups, giving feedback on products that the girls are designing – they were very impressed with the ideas pitched to them.
Maths Masterclass
Thursday 23 May
Three of our Year 5 girls joined with pupils from other schools,to takepart in a Maths Masterclass just before half term. They had to work together to solve various problems and challenges.
NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe Assembly
Monday 3 June
Girls enjoyed a special assembly on Monday this week, to remind them of the importance of speaking up if anything is bothering them. They will do follow-up sessions in class over the next couple of weeks. Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will also have a workshop delivered by the NSPCC, on Thursday 13 June.
Year 4 River Study

Year 4 really enjoyed engaging in practical outdoor activities on their river study trip to Cuerden Valley this week. The River Lostock presented exciting opportunities for the girls in measuring, netting, panning, sketching, observing and identifying small river creatures. This work supported their Geography ‘Rivers’ topic.
Year 3 and Year 4 Music Recital
Wednesday 5 June
It was lovely to see so many of our younger musicians perform in the first of our Music Recitals this week, with pieces on piano, violin, cello and clarinet, as well as some lovely vocal items. Very well done to all those who took part.

Gallery Review
Wednesday 5 June – Friday 7 June
Year 6 have been welcoming visitors from around the Foundation to their Creative Thinking gallery review, giving them an insight into the work they have been doing this term. The gallery focuses on the theme of curiosity and creativity with some amazing work on display, which the girls were so proud to talk to their visitors about. Well done!

Bolton Black History Group would like to invite you to their upcoming Windrush Day Festival taking place at Bolton Central Library between 1.00pm and 4.00pm, on Saturday 22 June. They are organising a fun packed event, which will include specific activities for children.
Summer Festival
Sunday 23 June, 12.00pm – 4.00pm
Friends of Bolton School (incorporating all of the Parent Associations) are organising a Summer Festival on Sunday 23 June, 12 - 4pm. Included in the ticket price will be inflatable fun and games suitable for everyone – there are 5 separate zones containing many different types of inflatables and activities, and covering all ages. In addition, the ticket price will also include access to football skills with ex-Wanderers players, activities for the whole family, live music and entertainers, arts and crafts activities and stalls, face painting, bubbles and much more! Children can enjoy collecting clues on the treasure hunt trail and there will be a range of unique gift stalls and raffle stands as well as a wide variety of food and drink available to purchase!

Volunteers are needed to help run games stalls and help with arts and crafts activities. We are asking for people to volunteer for 2 hours, for which they will receive a free individual ticket in return. We are also collecting for the raffle and a bottle tombola. If you have any unwanted gifts, however small, or can donate luxury items, vouchers or experiences, these can all be used to create raffle prizes. And anything in a bottle, from champagne to shampoo, can be donated to the bottle tombola. Please leave items at school reception marked “Summer Festival Raffle” or email bsbdpa@gmail.com

PD Charity Walk Monday 24 June
Pupils from Nursery to Year 6willtakeanactive part in the fundraising walk, which will take place on the ‘levels’ directly behind Senior School, on the afternoon of Monday 24 June. An email was sent out earlier this week with more information and a ‘pledge sheet’ has been sent home with the girls.
Pupils’ final donations will be collected via Parent Pay andwe ask that, once the pledge form has been completed and monies collected, you then make an electronic transfer to the charity fund. We will provide further information on this in the coming weeks.

Year 6 Leavers’ Celebration Event
The Parents’ Association are busy planning a special end of term event for the Year 6 girls, which will be held on the evening of Tuesday 25 June, 6.00pm – 8.30pm at Hesketh House. Further details will be sent out soon.
