HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 7 OCTOBER 2022

A note from the Head…

School Council

Thank you to all of the girls who have volunteered to come in to School tomorrow to help us with our Open Morning. We look forward to welcoming visitors to Hesketh House and they always enjoy meeting the staff and current pupils. Our girls are excellent representatives of Bolton School and we always get very positive feedback from our guests; I am sure this year will be the same.

The following girls have been elected to the School Council this term:

If you know of anyone who may be interested in a Bolton School education for their child, please do encourage them to come and see us. The whole campus is open from 9.30am – 1.00pm.

Road Safety

Please could I remind you to contact the school office juniorgirls@boltonschool.org.uk or 01204 434761 if your daughter is going to be absent from school for any reason. We would ask that you also use this email address for all day-to-day messages or enquiries, as it is monitored regularly through the day, whereas staff personal email addresses may not be.

We have been speaking to the girls in assembly about keeping themselves safe as they arrive at school in the morning and leave at the end of the day. Please do support us in this by making sure that they only cross roads at the designated crossing points. There is a lollipop man on Park Road and our own Sergeants cross children safely on Dobson Road. Anyone crossing Tudor Avenue or Chorley New Road should only do so at the traffic lights. Bolton Museum and Art Gallery offered a splendid setting and the mummification workshop was both engaging and full of participation for these eager young minds.

The girls were fascinated to learn more about chronology, artefacts, religion and about the importance of the River Nile to these ancient peoples. The entire day supported their curriculum work perfectly. Thank you to the two parent volunteers, Mrs Kumar and Dr Baker for their assistance!

Diana Anti-Bullying Training Tuesday 4 October

National Poetry Day Thursday 6 October

A selection of Year 5 girls enjoyed some antibullying training this week, courtesy of The Diana Awards, which they found very useful and informative. The event was attended by over 120 children from 12 schools across the North West.

Year 4 pupils led a National Poetry Day assembly on Thursday to celebrate this year’s theme, Environment. Taking inspiration from Sally Crabtree’s poem ‘Word Bird’, the pupils composed a rhyming poem to show how the Word Bird created a wonderful earth for us to be its custodians. Linking our poetry with verb work in English Grammar, the lines of poetry expressed how the Word Bird: woke the morning, bubbled the burns, sketched the waves, cooled the ice, sprouted the leaves, croaked the frogs, embraced the showers, dashed the dusk, chanted the sky, roared the lions… All Hesketh House pupils joined in the chorus, Oh the Word Bird sang and the world began. What a great start to the day!

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are: Maryam Ahmad Erin Chalk Rahima Isaak Beatrix Snape Darcey Tomlinson

Sophie Andrews Harriet Davis Sana Matak Bronwen Soper Orla Wilson

House went to the Great Hall we did an antibullying ambassador programme and were discussing how to stop bullying in our school. We all got a booklet which we wrote our ideas in. We can earn 4 badges, Community Action, Respect, Wellbeing and Online Safety. We did fun activities and worked with lots of different schools and people. We learnt about different types of bullying and all had a great time!’
