Bolton School Junior Boys 2012/2013

From the Head ….

This year has been another exciting year with a huge array of academic and extra-curricular activities. The boys have worked hard in lessons and enjoyed the diverse and engaging activities that have fuelled their learning. In addition, educational visits and learning experiences outside the classroom have led to an exciting time at Park Road.

This year the boys’ artwork has again been exhibited in Bolton town centre, with many favourable comments from members of the public about the skill and ability of the boys. Many noted that all the boys in Y6 had produced artwork of note and that it was not only the quality that was impressive but the breadth of the talent.

In sports this year, the school football team progressed to the ISFA 7-a-side national finals competition and performed well, the cross country team won local events and a regional independent school event and our swimmers had a good year and progressed to the national relay finals.

The music in school continues to be high quality and engaging, with pupils having opportunities to perform to huge audiences and to learn from accomplished musicians. In addition, the Year 6 play proved to be another triumph and gave the boys a huge sense of achievement and the audience a great time!

The review this year contains a snap shot of the year and, I am sure, will bring a smile to the face of all who read it as happy memories are relived.

The football team made it to the national semi final of the U11 ISFA seven a side tournament, putting them in the last four sides in the whole country. The boys won the North-West regional round but unfortunately lost out on penalties in the national semi final.

Sporting Success

Boys celebrated a double success after winning both the Bolton Primary Schools' Cross Country League and Championship. The Year 5/6 boys finished top of the league and also took first place in the Championship event at Moss Bank Park where the Year 3/4 team came second. The boys also did the School proud at the AJIS cross country Championships at Rossall School. The year 6s finished in first place and the year 5s just finished outside the top three.

At this year’s Sports Day Dobson house were the overall winners. A particular mention should go to Flynn who won the Athletics Cup.

The cricket team won the AJIS 6-a-side competition held in Stockport.

The Y6 swimming team took part in the National ESSA Finals at Sheffield. The boys did very well and got through to both B finals, finishing overall 13th in the freestyle relay and 16th in the medley relay. Well done boys!

Max Griffiths from LivLife returned to his old school to pick up a cheque for £11,463.03 and to thank the pupils and staff for their enormous fundraising efforts at the end of the last school year. The whole school event saw pupils raising money through a wide range of activities, culminating in a spectacular Maasai dance in the School’s Centre Quadrangle.

Fun Run

Bolton School Junior Boys dressed in fancy dress for their annual fun run as they raised money for the Bolton Branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The annual fundraiser is the main charity event at Park Road. The total raised was an amazing £4264!

Around School…

Year 3 and 4 pupils took part in a workshop run by Old Boy of the School and winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Professor Sir Harry Kroto. Children from eight local primary schools joined our pupils in constructing representations of the carbon molecule, C60 Buckminsterfullerene or "buckyballs" - the molecule that Sir Harry discovered.
