From Mrs. Faulkner

I hope that you have all had a lovely half term break. The boys have all returned to school refreshed and full of many tales of their fantastic holidays whether they were spent near nor far.

Ahead of Remembrance Day, Mrs Cahill spoke to the boys this morning about the importance of Remembrance from many different aspects . Through her assembly, Mrs Cahill linked her many different stories to the school values of challenge, commitment and collaboration. Next Monday we will mark Armistice Day with the 2 minute silence at 11am alongside further readings from a few of our Year 6 boys. Poppies will go on sale around school from tomorrow in support of the Royal British Legion’s work, boys may choose to purchase one from the Monitors if they wish for a recommended minimum donation of 50p.

I wrote to you before the half term break to share the news that we were interviewing for the position of the new Head of Park Road. I am delighted to tell you that further to that we have appointed Mrs Claire Finch, currently Deputy Head at Altrincham Preparatory School and she will join us later this academic year. Further details of that appointment can be found in the letter send separately to you today.

I would also like to let you know that after almost ten years in the Park Road office, Mrs Iddon has moved on to pastures new. She would like to thank colleagues, past and present, parents and boys who, over the years, have been so wonderful to work with, supportive and extremely kind and generous. I am sure you will want to join me and the Park Road staff in wishing to thank Mrs Iddon for her hard work and dedication to school, as well as for her involvement with the PA over many years. We all wish well in her new venture. Mrs Critchley will continue to manage the Park Road office in her place.

Tomorrow is photograph day in school, I look forward to seeing the boys all dressed smartly with hair brushed neatly ready for their individual and class photos. Staff are currently busy writing the boys’ interim reports and these will be published to parents on Friday 15th November with Parents’ Evenings the following week. Information regarding how to sign up for Parents’ Evenings will be sent out shortly.

This is always a busy and fun filled half term and I am very much looking forward to sharing it with the boys, staff and parents of Park Road.

Edinburgh 2024

Year 6 enjoyed a marvellous few days in the Scottish capital over half-term. After a very early start, we enjoyed a busy first day exploring the Scottish parliament and then spent a wonderful afternoon in the Museum of Scotland. Although we spent a few hours there, it still wasn't long enough for us to see everything! Then followed a spooky ghost walk, with tales of life gone by and spectacular sights of Edinburgh at night. After a good night's sleep, we began our second day, exploring the wonders of Dynamic Earth, where we experienced a volcano and all of us jumped out of our skin! Mary King's close was next, where we learned all about Edinburgh's streets in the past, the tour guide was very impressed by some of our questions! Ten-pin bowling ended the second day, where there were strikes, spares and slushies a plenty! Our final day ended with Edinburgh Castle, where we heard the famous canon send out its one o'clock boom! The boys were great company and it was a pleasure to take them. PC.

Lots of wonderful news to share about the boys’ achievements over half term

Jayan secured a win at Honda Cadet (aged 8-12) motorsport UK club level at Fulbeck on 27th October. He followed this up with another win at the IKR club round at Rowrah on 3rd November. Well done Jayan.

Well done to Boden in Year 4 for his brilliant work over half term creating a Halloween Half Term diary, filled with many exciting tales over the break.

Well done and thank you to Seve in Year 6 for spending some of his half term volunteering at the Good News Community Grocery in Wigan. He helped to stack the shelves; greet customers and even worked on the till! Well done Seve.

Please continue to share your news so that we can include it in our weekly newsletter.
