Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 15th June
Summer Term, 2022 — WEEK A
From Mr. Morris Dear Parents, As I write this, a slightly eerie silence has descended upon Park Road.
Wednesday 15th June Year 5 to Patterdale
The Year 6 boys are out watching “Matilda” at the Senior School this afternoon, whilst the boys in Years 4 and 5 have either started their stay at Patterdale or are homeward-bound after three days of adventure. The Year 3 boys, meanwhile, are doing their best to create some atmosphere as they run through various renditions in time for this evening’s year group concert.
All of the reports (and tweets) coming back from Patterdale tell of great fun, activity and camaraderie and we are indebted to the staff there for their helpfulness, hospitality and expertise. We are trying to put more emphasis on the Y6 to watch “Matilda”, idea of sustainability during our stay at Patterdale and the instructors there have GD Theatre, 2pm been invaluable in teaching the boys all about the local environment and how we Swim Squad Development, 4- can help to protect the countryside so that future generations can share in the happiness that it has granted each one of us. 5pm Year 4 return from Patterdale, 3.45pm

The Eco-Committee, led by Mrs Lowe and Mrs Winstanley, has been busy too in generating suggestions for ways in which we can improve our environment back at Park Road. The boys have been meeting with governors and with the Estates team to scrutinise every aspect of our approach to green matters! One such initiative is to turn off car engines for those waiting in the immediate vicinity of the school. I am sure that we can all get behind this idea, in order to improve the air quality for all of our community. Please see elsewhere in the newsletter for details of how to secure a ticket for this year’s must-see event… the Year 6 production of “The Jungle Book”. It runs for three nights (Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th June, as well as Friday 1st July) and promises to be a scintillating spectacle of singing, dancing and raucous entertainment. Tickets are £5 each. Don’t miss out and book early to avoid disappointment ! Best wishes, Mr Morris

Achievements Congratulations to Harry Sparks in 3B who performed in a drama showcase at the weekend with his performing arts group, playing the role of the Giant in “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Harry has been part of the group since Reception, however, due to Covid, this was only his second chance to perform in a production. Harry did a super job, speaking loudly, confidently and performing with good expression. It was a great experience for him to perform on stage in front of a good sized audience.. Well done, Harry ! Congratulations to Yusuf Hajee, in 4A, who attended the recent NWGTCreative Writing Workshop and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The theme of the day was ‘sweets and chocolate’ and Yusuf wrote all about a ‘refresher’ sweet! He was also lucky to have received a signed copy of a book by children’s author Simon
Congratulations to Oscar Gibbs in 5C, who was awarded " Man of the match" on Saturday for his football team, AFC Burnden, for good positional awareness and hard work up and down the wing. They won 2-1 against Moss Bank Whites
Please do let us know if your son has had any achievements outside of school. We would love to share them with the wider school Foundation.
Fantastic result, well done Oscar !
Bolton Schools Music Festival On Monday , the Upper School Choir took part in Bolton schools' Music Festival along with nine other schools. They rehearsed massed songs in the morning and in the evening, performed these, as well as 'Here Comes The Sun' and 'We Don’t Talk About Bruno'. The boys had a great time, they enjoyed hearing the other schools perform and also do one last performance as a choir this year. Many thanks to the parents who came to support the choir, Ms Lien for accompanying and Mrs Toner for conducting. HJO
