The boys have entered the ‘home straight’ for this academic year and look intent on finishing with a flourish. The Patterdale trips are over for another year and Year 3 has returned, full of smiles, from their Adventure Day at the Anderton Centre. It has been really nice to see the boys embrace the outdoors and really ‘sink their teeth’ into a variety of challenges. On the subject of Year 3, the boys performed magnificently at last week’s year group concert and the capacity crowd went home thoroughly entertained. The boys showed us an exciting window into the future, if that was the level that they are capable of on their very first performance. In view of the hot weather that we are currently enjoying, please could boys leave blazers and ties at home for the remainder of this week. Also, if your son has a cap, then please encourage him to bring it with him to school when the temperatures are particularly high. Water bottles and sun cream are a must too, please. Next week, it is the turn of Year 6 to showcase their singing, musical and acting talents as they grace the Senior Girls’ Theatre with their version of “The Jungle Book”. They have been working hard and are keen to impress. All are welcome to what promises to be a fantastic show. Please see elsewhere in the Newsletter for more details. Sadly, we must say goodbye to Mrs Fairclough at the end of this school year. She has accepted a post at Balshaw Lane Community Primary School, Euxton, as a Family Support Worker. The boys, and staff, will miss Mrs Fairclough enormously. She is a very popular and well-respected member of the team and hundreds of boys who have passed through Park Road have benefitted from her kindness, her encouragement and her teaching expertise. I am sure that she will be a great asset to her new school. FM Contacting the School Office Park Road, BOLTON, BL1 4RD. t: (01204) 434735

The photo below shows our formal Eco Code that represents the work of the Eco Committee this academic year.

The poster was created by Tejas Neelam in Year 6. SL

The “Creatives Now” exhibition is on this weekend at Crompton Place in Bolton, from 12 to 5pm. All the details of the event can be found here : https://issuu.com/creativesnow/docs/cnguide_59074578 This is a chance for the boys to not only see their Imagine if…postcards, but also to help build a school out of cardboard in one of the units to raise money for the school building project in Malawi. Bricks will cost £1, be decorated and then assembled in the space. It should be a great day ! JM

Y4 MUFC Power Play Tournament Well done to the eight Year 4 footballers who travelled to Manchester United’s first team training ground in Carrington on Tuesday to take part in the Emerging Talent Power Play Tournament. After winning the first round earlier this year, the boys were up against some of the best footballing schools in Manchester. After some battling performances, the team finished second in the group after one win, one draw and a loss. They progressed into the next phase of the tournament and came up against three very strong schools, including the eventual finalist. Congratulations! TG

Playing with the Halle at Bridgewater Hall

Y5 & Y6 House Cricket

Yesterday, a group of boys who play wind and orchestral instruments, journeyed to Manchester to “Come and Play with the Hallé” at The Bridgewater Hall.

The House Cricket match will take place on the levels at Senior School on Friday 24th June, starting at 1pm and concluding by 4pm.

They had prepared two pieces to play along with the Hallé and two songs to sing. They were really lucky to be sitting right at the front of the hall so had a great view of the orchestra.

Boys involved in the match will be advised beforehand.

As well as the pieces which they had prepared, they were treated to the Hallé playing different music from the Americas. HJO

Parents are welcome to come along and support, access to the playing fields will be through the Dobson Road Gate. TG

Judo Demo for Parents Parents of all boys who currently take part in after school Judo are invited to join Mr Parkinson and the boys, who will showcase the skills they have learned this academic year, on Monday 4th July from 4.30pm to 5pm. Please email Mrs Iddon in the School (parkroad@boltonschool.org) if you are able to attend.
