Autumn Term, 2022 — WEEK A
From Mr. King Welcome to the start of a new school year and a new school for many of us. I am delighted to be writing my first newsletter as Head of Boys’ Junior School. It was fantastic to finally see the boys today, ready and raring to learn and take an active part in our community.

Through working with staff over the last few weeks and meeting families and the boys today, I feel very privileged to be working at Bolton School. I am looking forward to really getting to know the boys and the community as a whole over the coming year. I have been impressed with the staff commitment to prepare for the new school year and ensure our boys feel cared for and ready to hit the ground running. We have a few new faces around school at the start of the year. Of course, I am new to the school and, in some respects new to England, having lived overseas for the last 16 years. Having taken on a range of leadership roles in two different international schools, the pull of Bolton School was too much to resist so we, my wife and three children, have moved back home. We are also joined by three new team members this term. Mr Porter has joined us from Lever House Primary school in Leyland. He is originally from Southport but now resides locally with his wife and two daughters. He is an experienced teacher who has taken on a range of leadership roles in Mathematics, PE and ICT. Mr Porter is 6B’s form tutor and will teach students in Year 5 and 6. He is incredibly excited to be joining our school due to the range of opportunities provided for our boys. Mrs Louise Howarth joins us as a teaching assistant, supporting the teachers within the school across the different year groups. She was part of the KidZone team prior to this. Mr Tom Price joins us from BSSL, where many of you may know him as a swimming instructor, and is 3A’s form teacher, having recently qualified. In addition to our new staff, Mrs Karen Winstanley has taken over as the school’s Deputy Head and Mrs Millie Brisk has been promoted to our Senior Teacher position. I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate both and, of course, welcome our new team members. Please keep a close eye on our newsletters for significant dates and events throughout the school year. If you have any urgent, immediate enquiries these can be answered via Mrs Iddon in the School Office, at parkroad@boltonschool.org. It would be remiss of me to end the newsletter without saying a heartfelt thanks to all the members of the school community who have given me a warm welcome but, in particular, to Mrs Winstanley, Mrs Iddon and Mrs Faulkner, who have worked extremely hard over their holidays to patiently answer my questions and ensure that our school continues to run smoothly and be an excellent place to learn. I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

Achievements Big congratulations go to Jasper Daniels, in Year 4, who spent part of his Summer skiing on a glacier in Austria and at the Indoor Snow Dome in Dubai. His training paid off: he finished 2 nd in the Welsh Championships and then finished the summer, winning gold in the English Indoor Championships. Phenomenal achievements, well done, Jasper ! Congratulations also go to Milan Kumar, in Year 6, who has been selected to be an #iwill ambassador. #iwill is a UK wide movement created to help more young people make a difference in their communities through social action. Please do let us know if your son achieves great things outside of school; we would love to share his news and achievements in the newsletter.
#iwill Ambassadors frequently attend conferences, roundtables and other events, both to represent the #iwill campaign and to share their unique perspectives informed by their social action journeys. This is fantastic, well done Milan ! Congratulations too to Karim Zenalabdin, in 4A, who successfully took his Piano Prep exam during the Summer holidays. He is looking forward to continuing his piano lessons with Mrs Lien in September. . Well done, Karim.
