HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 20 MAY 2022
A note from the Head… It has felt quiet again in Hesketh House this week, with the Year 6 girls away at Patterdale Hall. They have clearly had a great week, with lots of exciting activities and plenty of sunshine too. Year 4 and Year 5 girls are looking forward to their trips next week; hopefully the good weather will continue! A reminder that the Year 4 trip returns at 6.00pm on Tuesday evening, and the girls should be collected from the front of School, on Chorley New Road. Year 5 will return just before the end of the day on Friday and the girls will come back to Hesketh House. Mrs C Laverick
Class and Group Photographs Wednesday 11 May The girls will be bringing home information about these photographs, which can be ordered on line. Pupil Achievements As part of our Reading Award Scheme, Poetry Section, pupils in Year 4 participated in the Poetry By Heart competition. Tullah’s classroom recitation of Jenny Joseph’s poem ‘Warning’ was simply excellent and warranted entry into the Showcase section of the National Competition. Based on the following criteria: physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, level of difficulty, evidence of understanding and overall performance, Tullah received wonderful comments from a prestigious judging panel. ‘We really enjoyed this mature, confident and witty performance, well done. We’d love to see you enter the main Poetry By Heart Competition next year… To achieve this in a national competition is something you can be very proud of…’ Congratulations Tullah! Congratulations also to Anjali Kishore, who was awarded a Distinction in her Grade 2 Piano Exam, and Lily McCairn, who has passed her Initial Piano Exam with Merit. Well done to both girls!
Girls in both teams enjoyed being part of this competition at the weekend. We had mixed results in both age categories, with the U9 team finishing in 3rd place and the U11 team in 4th place. Particular congratulations to Prakruti Patel who won all her matches, playing on Board 1 in the U9s! Year 6 Patterdale Hall Monday 16 – Friday 20 May Year 6 girls have enjoyed a wonderful week at Patterdale with activities including archery, kayaking, climbing, gorge-walking, low ropes and sailing. They also enjoyed exploring the local area and completing a conservation project as part of the John Muir Award.

Ministry of Sense: Hunting the Higgs Tuesday 17 May
Patterdale Hall Information A copy of the kit list can be found here. We will also need a Consent to Administer Medicine Form for anyone who will require medication during the trip, a copy is here.
Year 5 girls enjoyed an interactive and entertaining show in the Theatre on Tuesday. They were taken through each stage of the scientific methods used to discover the Higgs Boson, with a few surprises thrown in along the way! Eco Competition Entry
Please could I remind you that the girls are not allowed to take mobile phones to Patterdale Hall. If there was an emergency and parents needed to contact the group then the following options are available: During School Hours – contact should be made with Hesketh House and messages will be passed on to staff at Patterdale. The Patterdale Hall number is 017684 82233. We will also have a school mobile phone, carried by a member of staff. The number is 07476 643346. This should not be used unless there is an ‘out of hours’ emergency. Please assume that ‘no news is good news’! Teachers will contact parents directly if necessary.
Good luck to the girls in the Eco Committee, who have created this fabulous mosaic for the 'Message in a Bottle Top' art project competition. They enjoyed turning waste into art – and are hoping that their entry will win a £5k playground makeover!
Twitter Please follow us on twitter @BSPDJnrGirls.
Staff will endeavour to get pictures on Twitter when possible, but please do understand that the days are very busy with activities and Wi-Fi is only available when in the Hall itself, so opportunities for uploading are limited. The main focus for the staff will be in ensuring that the girls have a fabulous trip! Year 6 Careers Carousel Wednesday 25 May Next week our Year 6 girls will join their peers from Park Road for a Junior Careers Carousel, which will be held at Hesketh House. This has proved very popular in the past and so we are delighted to see its return as an in-person event. The pupils will hear from Brain Research Centre Manager Alisha Patel (Class of 2011), Helicopter Pilot Rob De Maine (Class of 2002), Architects Jemma Woods and Emma Roden (nee Platt, Class of 1990) and Consultant Transplant Surgeon and current parent Hussein Khambalia. The girls will receive a leaflet on Monday with the speakers’ biographies so that they can prepare some questions in advance if they wish.
