HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 8 JULY 2022
A note from the Head…
National Numeracy Competition Winner
This is our last Newsletter of the term and therefore I would take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the year. Whether it has been attending concerts, listening to reading, helping to learn spellings and tables, assisting with homework or simply making sure that the right equipment is brought to School on the right day, it has all been much appreciated and it does make a difference!
Congratulations to Bronwen, who is the winner of this national competition. The organisers said, “We all really loved the drawing of her archaeologist dream! It was so creative, and we could see how much effort she put into her entry.” Bronwen won a £50 book voucher for herself and over £1000 worth of maths resources for School. Thank you, and very well done!
I would also like to thank our Parents’ Association, who have been very supportive over many years. The majority of the committee will be leaving as their daughters are moving to the Senior School, so it is fitting to thank them formally for everything they have done for Hesketh House – we have been very grateful for your considerable efforts! Finally, I would like to wish all of our Year 6 girls the very best of luck as they move on to the next stage of their educational journey. Hopefully we have given them a firm foundation upon which to build a successful future. I wish you all a relaxing summer break! Mrs C Laverick

Eco Club Harvest! Members of the Eco Club enjoyed digging up their potatoes on Monday this week. The only question was how did they want to cook them – chips, mash, roast or boiled? In the end they were roasted and served with chilli flakes for lunch on Thursday – they were delicious!

Year 5 Visit to Urban Outreach Monday 4 July Year 5 girls were invited back to Urban Outreach to learn about the impact of their hard work and support this year. Their first task was to consider what poverty meant to them. They scanned newspapers to find out about how often poverty was reported on and quickly learnt that there was very little coverage… sadly, the world would much rather read about celebrities and their wealth! The girls were then set a challenge to plan a week’s worth of meals with the items that Urban Outreach give out to families in need. The Lost Words: Told in Gold All classes have enjoyed performances of ‘The Lost Words’ this week. They particularly liked the interactivity as they joined in searching for and reading the lost words – spells hidden in the woods surrounding the specially designed, giant goldfinch nest theatre dome.
Family and friends of Bolton School can still buy tickets for public performances, which will take place from Monday 11 July to Friday 22 July inclusive. You can book tickets here: https://www.fatsoma.com/p/undersongproductions
Bolton Children’s Fiction Award Ceremony Tuesday 5 July, Bolton School Year 6 had a wonderful time at the awards and were delighted that Helen Rutter was announced as the winning author. The girls loved hearing about her journey to becoming an author and the techniques she used when writing her books. Charity Afternoon Wednesday 6 July Year 6 organised a variety of stalls and games on Wednesday afternoon, to raise money for our Malawi Appeal. In total a huge £950.39 was raised – a fantastic effort girls, very well done!

All parents are invited to attend the Parent Information Evening at the start of the Autumn Term. This is an opportunity to meet with the class teachers to find out more about general School routines, as well as specific information relating to each particular year group. In addition, Mrs Kyle will be present to talk to Year 6 parents about the transition to the Senior School, the Entrance Examination and admissions process in particular. This is a very useful event and I would urge all parents to attend if they possibly can.
