Spread Love
Community Service in the Real Estate Industry Community service is a core tenet of the BOMA Georgia mission. Giving back to the communities we live and work in is an important practice and builds value for real estate professionals in the industry. In 2016, BOMA members from your company gave back. In this issue, we will explore four specific events that made an impact in 2016.
Sixth HomeAid Atlanta Care Day The Nov. 18 Community Service Construction Project was the sixth time that BOMA Georgia and HomeAid Atlanta partnered for a Care Day to help provide needed renovations to a deserving charity in the Atlanta community. This year’s project benefitted Solomon’s Temple, a homeless shelter dedicated to the eradication of homelessness by empowering women and their children to overcome life’s challenges, realize their potential, define their own destiny and become vital factors in the revitalization and sustainability of their community. Over 150 volunteers and 25 company and individual donors contributed to the success of the project. The scope of work included painting,
landscaping, pressure washing, window washing, general repair, paving, cleaning, organizing, ceiling tile replacement and other renovations and tasks. The work of the volunteers was organized by members of the core team from Welltower, Mayberry Electric and Constructive Ingenuity.

This event continues to be the biggest demonstration of BOMA giving back to its community, not only receiving the thanks of residents and staff at Solomon’s Temple, but also local elected officials like State RepresentativeElect David Dreyer. The Solomon’s Temple facility is located in Dreyer’s district.
Serving Our Chosen Charity, Hillside Hillside is Atlanta’s oldest organized charity. A private, not-for profit agency, Hillside provides quality, cost-effective treatment and education to severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families. Programs include intensive residential psychiatric treatment, therapeutic foster care and community-based family preservation services. Hillside’s programs emphasize a supportive structured environment, individualized treatment plans and caring, functional families. Hillside Skills Day The 2016 Hillside Skills Day on June 14 leveraged the expertise of 17 BOMA Georgia members to teach the children of BOMA
Georgia’s chosen charity Hillside about general skills needed to be productive in society, an educational environment and the workplace. Hillside Field Day On Oct. 8, over 30 volunteers from BOMA Georgia organized a field day complete with relay races, volleyball, carriage rides, cornhole, face-painting, burgers, treats and plenty of excitement for the children of Hillside. The event featured a Dr. Seuss theme and took place on a BOMA member-owned ranch in McDonough, Ga.
Hillside Holiday Party On Dec. 5, 2016, the BOMA Georgia Community Service Committee held its annual Hillside Holiday Party for BOMA Georgia’s chosen charity. Eighteen BOMA members helped make this event a success and impact lives of the scores of children that are served by the Hillside organization. At the event, volunteers served food, dressed in holiday costumes, assisted in crafts and played games with the children. For some of the children, this event served as their only holiday celebration.
