Preparedness GUIDE TO MEMBER BENEFITS OWNERS BROCHURE

THIRD QUARTER 2017

Preparedness

Preparedness; it is a nebulous concept applying to many different areas of life. In September, Emergency Preparedness often comes to mind. Somber occasions like the 16-year anniversary of September 11, 2001 remind us of the need for preparedness. But, there is a whole range of scenarios for which the property management professional must be prepared. In this issue, we will explore how BOMA Georgia is helping make sure your property management professionals are prepared for the future with the requisite skills and information to do their jobs and return value to your assets.

Prepared for High-Performance Whether it is high-performance buildings or real estate professionals, BOMA Georgia remains focused on equipping today’s real estate managers and operations and maintenance professionals with the knowledge and skills to implement high-performance sustainable building principles, practices and investments at their properties.

Have questions about the BOMI-HP™ program? We have put together a FAQ and information page about the BOMI-HP™ to help you discover how having a BOMI-HP™ designee on your team returns value to your assets.

BOMA Georgia is proud to partner with BOMI International to hold all three courses in the new BOMI-HP™ designation program annually. A $500 scholarship from the BOMA Georgia Foundation is embedded in each of the three courses. This makes it possible for your company’s member employees to earn a new designation in one year for less than $1,800!

Prepared for Industry Changes

The industry is always changing, along with the codes and regulations that govern it. BOMA Georgia keeps real estate professionals up-todate on these significant changes with classes, workshops, seminars and published articles. Insight Issue 2 Anchor Away!

BOMA Georgia has created a new and different approach to leadership growth that explores the qualities that are fundamental to CRE leadership and what tomorrow’s leaders must do to prepare for the future of real estate. This leadership journey features different instruction styles, including experiential learning, both in teams and as an individual; executive coaching sessions; extracurricular coursework; and a program project presented by each participant after the program. Hear what our first class of 2016 CRE Leadership Masters had to say about their experience. Video Link.

As BOMA Georgia begins the final quarter of the year, the association is helping inform engineers on the new National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes. The Oct. 19 BOMA Technical Organization (BTO) Seminar on Life Safety will feature seven subject matter experts and trainers facilitating an in-depth review on this subject matter. Education for your employees on codes and code compliance helps save lives, mitigate risk and cut cost. Read more about the Oct. 19 workshop in the next section.

spread the word about the changes coming with OSHA Rule 1910 that is scheduled to take full effect on Nov. 18, 2017. The standard focuses on OSHA’s Walking-Working Surface regulations with the intended purpose of increasing worker safety and limiting the number of accidents associated with the use of stairs, ladders and other elevated work surfaces. While most BOMA member companies were already prepared for this change, BOMA Georgia helped spread the message of the coming changes with a two-part series of articles focused on ‘the what’ and ‘the how’ surrounding the OSHA Ruling.

Insight Issue 3 - Preparing for OSHA Rule 1910: A Property Management Perspective

these events occurring at their properties, but the unfortunate reality is that this training and preparation is necessary for the safety of your tenants and employees. Simultaneously, this training also helps avoid risk and protect your assets. The most important asset being your people.

This year’s Fall Free Seminar on Sept. 29 explored the topic of Conflict Competence. This seminar is regularly $99, but BOMA Georgia members attend for free. Attendees learned what constitutes a healthy level of conflict that inspires growth and fosters a great exchange of ideas and creativity, while avoiding unchecked conflict that leads to negative results.
