You will develop knowledge about basic financial concepts as they relate to real estate, including valuation, analysis, taxation, depreciation and lifecycle costing. Refrigeration equipment is a key component of an air-conditioning system that must be properly maintained and operated at maximum efficiency. This course reviews the basic refrigeration cycle and refrigeration system components, as well as how to operate and maintain reciprocating and absorption refrigeration systems. Foundations of Building Engineering (BE 101) Get the solid foundation in building engineering you need through BOMA Georgia’s Building Engineering 101, a six-day course taught over six weeks. The course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals and behind-the-scenes tours of Atlanta buildings. Learn from real-life scenarios while gaining an understanding of relevant building systems in a course specifically designed to teach building engineers how to be successful in their field. The Fall Free Seminar, is an annual seminar that explores topics and trends in Georgia’s commercial real estate industry. These seminars are free and open to any current BOMA Georgia member. Non-members can attend for $99. Specifically designed for BOMA Georgia allied members, the Allied Member Resource Group meets quarterly for a free seminar. The seminars explore specific topics related to either doing business or maximizing an allied member’s experience within BOMA Georgia. These seminars are always free for BOMA Georgia allied members. Building technicians need to understand the inner workings of boilers, burners, controls, fittings, valves, and pumps, as well as how they connect and interrelate. This course will teach you how to operate and maintain steam, hot water, warm air, and radiant heating systems. You will also learn the principles of mathematics that are essential to operating these building systems.
Building Design and Maintenance

Learn to compare building system components and to identify appropriate inspection and maintenance techniques. You will develop the knowledge to establish procedures and standards for monitoring building operations, preventive maintenance, and cleaning. You will also learn to read and use construction documents, studying from a coursebook that features a set of drawings and an architect’s pocket scale.
Energy Management and Controls
This course teaches you to develop energy management strategies for HVAC, electrical, and lighting systems. You will learn about the components, principles, adjustment, and maintenance of system controllers, auxiliary devices and electronic, pneumatic, and computer control systems. We’ll cover heating, cooling, and humidification control applications, along with variable air volume and building pressurization control devices. You’ll develop the skills and knowledge to perform a cost/benefit analysis of HVAC, electrical, and lighting systems, and to create an energy management program for your facility.
