CRE Leadership Masters Program Meeting the Leadership Challenge of Tomorrow

Responding to the need in the market to prepare Commercial Real Estate (CRE) professionals to meet the leadership challenges of tomorrow, BOMA Georgia has created a new and different approach to leadership growth that explores the qualities that are fundamental to CRE leadership and what tomorrow’s leaders must do to prepare for the future of real estate. This program is designed for all industry professionals, no matter where they are on their leadership journey. The program features a variety of instruction styles, including experiential learning, both in teams and as an individual; executive coaching sessions; extracurricular coursework; and a program project presented by each participant at the conclusion of the program. Additionally, each participant in the CRE Leadership Masters Program will be required to research, plan and implement a project. The first class of CRE Leadership Masters begin their journey with a kickoff retreat, Feb. 11-12 in Athens, Ga. Following the kickoff, participants will meet for five different excursions held throughout the first half of the year and concluding June 2. The program costs $1,000 to enroll, and this affordable program was made possible with embedded funding from the BOMA Georgia Foundation. We are eager to report back in June on the successful first class of program graduates.

Professional Designations

Building Better Better Building Operations and Management Each year, BOMA Georgia partners with BOMI International (www.bomi.org) to offer a variety of professional designations for property managers, facility managers and building engineers. Throughout the commercial property industry, a BOMI designation is recognized as a mark of distinction; an emblem of achievement backed by BOMI’s more than 40 years of excellence in developing and offering advanced education programs. Throughout 2015, BOMA Georgia offered an array of courses to assist property and facility managers in attaining their Real Property Administrator (RPA) or Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) designation; as well as courses for engineers to obtain their Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) or Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA) designation. BOMA Georgia is also proud to offer all three courses needed for industry professionals to gain a High-Performance enhanced designation (for those who already have their RPA or FMA) or certificate (for those who do not hold an RPA or FMA designation). Growing occupant demand, investor pressures, and building code requirements have led to a new standard in high-performance building, driving many markets to mandate comprehensive sustainability and energy-efficiency programs. To meet this challenge, BOMI International presents a new High-Performance Program, designed by industry experts to further enhance the competencies—knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform key job functions—of professionals who are responsible for implementing sustainable initiatives. To discover what courses are still available in 2016, visit the BOMA Georgia Events Calendar at www.BOMAGeorgia.org. And check back often, as the 2016 dates will be plugged in very soon.

The Impact of the Foundation

The Foundation extends your organization’s education budget!

Since it was created last year, the Foundation has awarded 78 scholarships, conducted two research projects, and released one white paper. The Foundation is fulfilling its mission of advancing real estate education and research. Your company’s members benefit as recipients of the Foundation’s research and educational funding. In 2015 all building engineers who enrolled in a BOMA Georgia SMA or SMT course received a $500 scholarship. Any student enrolled in the Budgeting and Accounting BOMI RPA course also received a $500 scholarship. This program will be expanded in 2016 to include reduced pricing for BOMI’s new HP Sustainable Building Principles course, as well as BOMA Georgia’s CRE Leadership Masters Program. In the end, the Foundation’s efforts save you money by extending your company’s education budget and developing building management professionals who know how to increase efficiency and realize significant ROI.
