Fredrik Backman A Man Called Ove

Beth worked as a Qualified Librarian in Aberdeen for 20 years. She loves reading and delights in finding exciting new authors as well as reverting back to favourite writers of all genres. Beth has lived in Gran Alacant for the last 15 years.

At first sight, OVE is almost certainly the grumpiest man you will ever meet. He thinks everyone around him are idiots, unable to read signs and follow rules.

His new neighbours cannot reverse a trailor properly, he loathes joggers and shop assistants who talk in code and he hates the perpetrators of the vicious coup d’etat that ousted him as Chairman of the Residents’ Association. However that will not stop him making his daily inspection rounds of the local streets. Despite himself he cannot help but get caught up in the lives of those around him even though it prevents his own personal life progressing as he wishes Behind the façade of this grumpy man is someone who is grieving and is unhappy.

But there is something about Ove that is quite irresistible to those around him. A funny, uplifting tale of love and community that will certainly leave you feeling more positive about life. This book has just been made into a film with the part of Ove (Otto) played by Tom Hanks.
