Hello
Firstly congratulations to one of our regular advertisers The Phoenix on their 9th anniversary see their advert on page 26.
Also thanks to Bryan Thomas for sending us his picture of the eclipse on the front cover. Doesn’t the Mimosa now out along the roadsides give a lovely splash of colour, it certainly has brightened up some of the dull days we have had in March. Hopefully now the clocks have sprung forward our sun will be here to stay for the summer.
Have a very Happy Easter, don’t eat too many of those easter eggs. Sandra and Barry

Hi Barry & Sandra, Just a very serious point regarding the G/A train. I was very suprised when I heard the train had been off road for maintenance, shame they do not pay attention to the tyres. Before Christmas I just happened to glance at the tyres on the train & the front kerbside tyre was bald. Last night 28th Feb we went for a meal at the G/A center & walked past the train in its overnight parking area & I just had a look at the front kerbside tyre & to my amazement it has not been changed. So that means for at least 3 months people have been travelling on a very unsafe vehicle. I tried to take a photo of the tyre but my phone wouldn't take it in the dark. But if that tyre blew out & caused an accident & people were injured = I am sure the insurance company would wriggle out of any payouts . I am sure people would be very concerned at the obvious poor maintenance & inspections carried out by the people concerned. Apart from the police & am not sure who to report this dangerous vehicle to. When not take a look & maybe a photo of the tyre ? Also pass this info to Loreto she may help regards William and Pat ....Read our magazine at www.granalacantadvertiser.com..... Signs showing trails in the Sierra for walking and cycling.

As another Political Party dropped their advert at the last moment, we can include an update of the new Santa  Pola bus station.
SANTA POLA BUS STATION
On 19-March-2015 the mayor of Santa Pola, Miguel Zaragoza, visited the site of the future bus station, whose construction continues steadily and "within the stipulated time," said Lola Gadea, Town Planning. Thus, one of the leaders of Vectalia, the construction company, Antonio Agudo, dared to date, "barring unforeseen problem, the station will be operational during the month of July."
The neighbouring building is destined to be a commercial zone, and will not be be ready, probably until October. The priority of both Vectalia as well as the government team is to provide the bus station, to respond to citizen needs.
The two structures that are currently under construction will be divided by gardens.
The building itself destined for the station shares approximately 400 square metres with a waiting area and a ticket office, toilets, a tourist information office, a police agency to ensure public safety and commercial premises, and most likely a cafeteria. "The purpose of this is to cover the needs of citizens " pointed Gadea.
The mayor wants this important infrastructure to meet all requirements to "ensure the comfort, welfare and safety of users while becoming a bright and aesthetically pleasing stay".

Hi to everybody,
In this month there are plenty of celebrations, wherever you go from 1st to 5th of April you can attend to Holy Week processions.
If you can’t come to see every procession in Santa Pola and you have to choose one, I recommend to see the biggest that takes place on Friday the 3rd. In the Fortress-Castle there from 2nd to 5th a Medieval Market will be held .
More parades of Moors and Christians held this month in: San Vicente del Raspeig, Busot, , Onil, Granja Rocamora and the one in Bañeres de Mariola from 22nd to 25th declared of national tourism interest. And the most famous in the Costa Blanca the one held in Alcoy will be on Saturday 25 at 10,30a.m the Christians and at 5p.m the Moors.
In Alicante on the 19th of May takes place the “Romeria de la Santa Faz”, if you want to discover what a popular pilgrimage in Spain is go and join it, I must warn you that there will be thousands of people. That’s all for now .

and of course a wonderful raffle. Come along and enjoy a happy afternoon with your hosts Christine and Videll at the Sunset Bar.
Please do not forget the second hand market on the new market site, every third Sunday in the month. Well worth a look, lots of stalls and very popular. The location of the site is on our map at the back of this magazine. 55

WHAT’S THAT? IN THE CLOT?
by Mark Etheridge
March was an entertaining month in the Clot, with sightings of early migrants including both varieties of swallows – Barn and Red-rumped – and Yellow Wagtails among the early arrivals. There was a lot of water-based action as well, with much fighting and bickering amongst the Moorhens and Coots, and the male Little Grebes were chasing each other like low-level exocet missiles and trilling their distinctive calls. Also returning were two male Red-crested Pochards, and it is to be hoped that these colourful ducks will repeat their breeding success of last year when two broods of chicks were raised.
But the most exciting visitors occurred over three or four days early in the month, and if you were lucky enough to be in the Clot at the right time you could not have failed to both see and hear some very noisy and rather large birds. There were at least three of them at any one time. This is the Great-spotted Cuckoo (Críalo europeo in Spanish), which is not a regular bird in our immediate area but can usually be found further inland, particularly in the Guadalentin area south of Murcia. They are amongst the earliest summer arrivals, and it is likely that these birds were simply using the Clot as a convenient stopover on their migration elsewhere. My picture shows one in a tree at the marsh hide, but they were ranging along the path from the pool all the way to the low hill at the west end of the Clot, calling their raucous song which is quite unlike the genteel “cuk-oo” of the more familiar bird which you should listen out for this month.
Like its close cousin, the Common Cuckoo, this bird is a brood parasite which lays its eggs in other bird’s nests. However, being a much larger bird than its cousin, it restricts itself to larger species, usually of the crow family, and in Spain it specialises in Magpie nests, but unlike the Cuckoo the chick Great-spotted Cuckoo does not attempt to evict all the other nestlings, although if food is scarce the chick will often survive while the Magpie chicks might not. Magpies are extremely intelligent birds, and quite often they recognise the cuckoo egg as an interloper and will evict the egg, so life for the Great-spotted Cuckoo is always a struggle.
The good news for us about the Great-spotted Cuckoo is that it is one of the few birds in our area which will eat the caterpillars of the dreaded Pine Processionary variety! These birds are generally doing well, and we might hope to see more of them about in future.
You can see more photos of birds in our area by visiting my site at: http://marketheridge.smugmug.com/ See you next month.
