COACHING COORDINATOR’S REPORT
Mr. Lionel Brown
This year we started off a bit different then normal. After seventeen years, Barry Ruttle was not leading the way for the district coaching providers, as the NSW Referees Accreditation Manager. I would take this opportunity to thank him for the great effort and support that he has freely given over the years.
The education for new referees in 2011 saw the Association’s coaching panel conduct three NRAS Level 1 courses at the Lakemba Serane Thorburn, Jake Cairns, Dylan Elias, Adnan Obeid, David Harrington, Aidan Harrington, Jake Safetly, David Haddad, Pierre Gerges, Steven Yerbury, Ryan Yerbury, Jeremy Safi and Amr Mustafa.
In this year’s intake there were two more father and son combination, this brings the Association number to fourteen, which must be a record.
The Australian Rugby League Development (ARLD) is trying to head towards remote learning, where a candidate may complete a Level 1 refereeing course via the internet and then seek to join an association to complete practical training. The commencement date was targeted at January 2012, but a trial period of twelve months will be now conducted, and a review at the end of this period.
Many thanks must go to my two good mates Joe Attard and Glenn Jeffcoat, who put in the long hours to coach new referees not only at the NRAS courses but on game days. Also Barry Belford attended courses later in the year, passing on valuable knowledge and experience to the new comers.
To those referees who watched over the new ones at games, well done and thank you.
Next season is just around the corner and we will be looking for assistance with the class of 2012.
