BookMad Bookshelf features a wide spectrum of titles and topics. In each issue, we share our love of good literature with readers and budding writers alike. Check out our Winning Tips for Aspiring Authors section for practical, helpful advice on how to craft your next masterpiece. What the Critics Say About, a section devoted to book reviews, allows you to read objective feedback from notable names in the industry—helping you discover your next literary purchase or gauge which titles match your interests. Here’s what some critics and literary observers are saying about some of our recent releases: “These edifying rhyming tales deliver morals in a delightful way. Michelle Chin summons the spirit of Aesop’s Fables in her delightful picture book, The Little Book of Animal Stories.” ~ Foreword Clarion on Michelle Chin’s The Little Book of Animal Stories: Part I
“Saint Thérèse’s compassion and strength of character, and Wright’s portrayal of her, reach across barriers of religious differences.” ~ Foreword Clarion on John D. Wright’s The Smallest Spark
“The Old West is brought vividly to life in this sardonic and pleasurable collection.” ~ Foreword Clarion on Timothy Shambley’s Slade River
Once again, we extend congratulations to our authors on completing their book and getting their presence known in the market. We look forward to more great achievements!

WINNING TIPS FOR ASPIRING AUTHORS
With the dark cold winter still in effect, it’s a great time to look at some horror story clichés. Some of them should probably be retired for good, but others just never grow old. And if you write (or read) in the horror genre, no doubt you recognize some of these like old friends! >>

The attic (or basement) door that’s always kept locked. And it’s not because no one has dusted there in weeks. To be avoided at all costs. The house that’s priced far below market value. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. In a horror story, asbestos or faulty wiring will be the least of your problems if you close the deal on this place. The over-informed village lunatic. In your real life, you’d likely place more faith in the word of rational, logical folk—but not in a horror story, where sane people are not to be believed. Instead, trust the village lunatic, as his theory is probably correct. Just blow him up! Whoever the villain happens to be, know in advance that shooting him, stabbing him, or hitting him with your car (even multiple times) won’t do the trick. The only solution? A near nuclear-level explosion. And he’ll probably still live long enough after that to scare you one last time. The mirror shock. If you find yourself in a horror story, mirrors aren’t your friend. Don’t look in them, open one (on a medicine cabinet, for example), or break one. There are no exceptions to this rule. Bring a map and a GPS. Don’t ever ask the locals for directions—it just never turns out well. “Wait here; I’ll go check it out.” A floorboard creaking? A branch snapping? No need to investigate; it’s a demon, maniac, or serial killer. Bank on it. Pack extra batteries. You might have just bought that flashlight yesterday, but rest assured that the minute you get into a tough spot, the batteries are going to die. Plan ahead and bring extras—you can’t have too many! Auto tune-ups! Have one before you find yourself in a horror story. That car of yours might have started during the last hurricane, or after taking part in a <<

WINNING TIPS FOR ASPIRING AUTHORS
When writing in the fantasy genre, maintaining consistency is vital. Lack of consistency can kill a fantasy story. When you write fantasy, you are asking the readers to suspend their disbelief and accept a world, and often a universe, of your creation—one that might be completely foreign to the readers. Whether your story is in the vein of classic fantasy like Lord of the Rings, modern urban fantasy, or something entirely original, consistency is the mortar keeping your story together. Without consistency, your fantastical world will collapse like a poorly made house. One of the worst mistakes a writer can make, especially in the fantasy genre, is breaking consistency, which is often seen by ignoring or contradicting something previously established for simple plot convenience. >>

sc rollable te x t
Character Consistency It is of vital importance that you keep your characters consistent. If you are further along with your story with main characters firmly established, it can be jarring to your readers if one of your main characters does or says things that grossly contradict the character’s earlier behavior. Once you have established the kind of people your characters are, what values they uphold, and what they are willing or not willing to do, stick to them. If you write your characters to suddenly do or say something they previously refused or even warned another against, then the reader might see the characters as hypocrites or even go as far as to question your writing skills. Consistency of Setting When you pick your setting for your story, keep in mind the norms, values, and practices of such a setting. For example, if you set your story in a world not unlike that of feudal Europe, then keep in mind how feudalism worked, how it was practiced, and what was not done or tolerated in such a society. If a character (hero or villain) does act in a way that is unorthodox or even taboo to their society, there should be proportionate consequences. If a character acts in a way their society finds detestable and loathsome yet how their society sees and treats them is relatively unchanged, such can be construed as bad writing. <<

Misreading Judas by Robert Wahler
The Gospel of Judas is the most important discovery in history. It bridges the gap between Eastern mystic teaching, Gnosticism, and the three Middle Eastern Abrahamic religions, informing all of them. Unfortunately, the Christianity-biased scholars assigned to its interpretation and those who have followed them do not understand it at all. They miss that Judas is the gnostic sacrifice, and that there is no traditional orthodox Jesus sacrificed – in the Gospel of Judas or in the Bible. The true origin of the Christian message and its nullification of mystic Truth can now, at long last, be fully told.
