BOONE COUNTY DRUG PREVENTION COALITION NEWSLETTER The Boone County Drug Prevention Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life by promoting a lifestyle free from the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We are evidence-based program focused on ages 11-18 and their families. Below are the highlights of a challenging 2020 year: Highlights • Board and staff graduated from the National Coalition Academy on February 4th in Maryland. Pictured above are Justin Barber, Ellen Genrich, Alyssa Lazzerini, Jessica Perillo, and Melissa Bucalo with CADCA staff receiving their graduation certification from the National Coalition • Flapjack Fundraiser in February at Applebee’s - The community Academy on February 4, 2020 in Maryland. support was overwhelming and appreciated. • Partnered with WTVO creating the Thrive public service campaign. Local celebrities like Michelle Williams (Grammy Award Winning Artist), Sean Considine (Super Bowl Champion, Baltimore Ravens), Dan Lund (Disney Effects Designer), & Nicole Briscoe (ESPN Sports Center Anchor) partnered with us to send the message you can Thrive like them by not drinking, taking drugs, or vaping. • 3 appearances on Good Day Stateline with some of our youth members highlighting the coalition as well as some family fun activities. • Red Ribbon Week Implementation - We implemented Red Ribbon Week from October 23rd to 31st with the mission of keeping kids drug free. The Coalition encouraged the community to display a red ribbon or yard sign in your home or business to show showing support for the cause. Area restaurants also put red ribbon stickers on their takeout orders to help raise the awareness too. • Participated in the Belvidere Area Chamber’s Trunk or Treat event interacting with over 400 vehicles that passed through event. • Presented the Thrive Campaign to the County Board where youth were highlighted and able to meet elected officials. • In December, we held 4 successful focus groups for both youths 15-18 & adults to discuss alcohol used in Boone County. • In December, we also participated in the Hometown Christmas Drive-Thru Event interacting with over 650 cars. • Created a YouTube channel & a TikTok platform with social media messaging. How to Get Involved: There are many ways that you can help us stop youth substance use in Boone County. Here are a few. • Register & become a member at bcdpc.org or ask a current member how to get involved. • Attend monthly Coalition meetings held the 2nd Tuesday of the month or Youth Council meetings the 2nd Wednesday of the month. • Volunteer during our events Send us your feedback & suggestions.
