On behalf of Belvidere Township, I hope this guide helps you to enjoy all that Belvidere/Boone County has to offer. Township government is the oldest form of government in North America, beginning in 1636 and in Illinois in 1848. Belvidere Township began in 1850. There are nine townships in Boone County and these elected officials represent what is most commonly referred to as the government closest to the people. General Assistance, Property Assessment, and Road & Bridge Maintenance are the three basic services provided by our Township. Other services provide a link to the community that includes, but is not limited to, senior citizens programs, youth programs, assistance to the disabled, and cemetery maintenance. Townships serve their citizens from the cradle to the grave.
Enjoy all that Boone County and especially Belvidere Township has to offer, this is truly a great place to live and visit, our people care. Visit us on the web at www.belvideretownship.org. See our ad on page 19.

Serves residents within the city limits of Belvidere as well as the approximately 9,000 residents that reside outside the city limits.
Belvidere Township has 79 miles of road, 81 subdivisions with approximately 120 cul-de-sacs.
Belvidere Township is involved in many programs throughout the year. We sponsor a Shred Day Program to destroy unwanted documents each Spring. We provide a drug collection site for unused and outdated medicines in the summer. In 2012 local voters authorized Belvidere Township to negotiate electric rates for residents and small businesses in the township.
For your safety Belvidere Township has five tornado sirens. The sirens will use the following tones to indicate weather warnings. These are used in Boone County. Neighboring communities may have other signals. Regular testing is the first Tuesday of each month.
Steady Tone: When the tornado siren goes off with a steady tone, and sounds for three (3) minutes (that is a long time), it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado warning. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted in the area. Go to the basement or nearest tornado shelter.
Tornado Watches: There is no siren signal for a tornado watch. If you get this message over the television or other media, it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado watch. Conditions are right for the formation of a tornado, but none has been sighted. Be alert for the warning siren.

THE 2023 BOONE COUNTY FAIR: It all started in March of 1963 when the Boone County Pomona Grange decided to keep the Boone County Fair alive & purchased 80 acres of bare farmland on Rt 76 one mile north of Belvidere. This leap of faith by area Grange members 60 years ago kept the Boone County Fair going & growing. Sixty years later we have 183 acres with many buildings, barns, stages, a 2,000 seat grandstand, roadways, restrooms, outdoor dining hall, food stands, gazebos, half mile dirt track, extensive lighting & sound along with a year-round administration building & grounds maintenance shop…a great venue for a wide variety of activities mid-April to November 1st including the biggest event of them all…The Boone County Fair, voted the number one Festival/Fair in the Rock River Valley for 2021 & 2022 in the ‘What Rocks’ Community Choice Awards. The Boone County Fair is the largest county fair in the State of Illinois averaging 213,000 fairgoers attending each of the last five fairs. 2023 should be no exception with six big days of too much fun being planned for August 8th - 13th. This year’s Grandstand shows feature country great Tracy Byrd on Saturday evening. Opening for Tracy will be a regional band from Champaign, Illinois, the highly entertaining ‘Feudin’Hillbillys’. Gas & diesel pickup truck pulls Wednesday evening. Tractor & truck pulls all day Thursday. Next Level Professional Bull Riding on Friday evening. Two demo derbies on Sunday and it all kicks off Tuesday with the annual Miss Boone County Fair Queen and Little Miss Pageant at the Grandstand. The fair features some of the best livestock shows in the state for draft horses, ponies, goats, beef & dairy cattle, sheep, rabbits, poultry & swine. Thousands of Home Ec, Ag & Art Exhibits; acres of vendors & exhibits inside & outside; wide variety of delicious fair food; giant exciting Skinner’s Midway with new expanded Kiddie Ride section; plus, free entertainment & exhibits throughout the grounds daily including the Free Entertainment Pavilion, the one room schoolhouse, huge antique tractor display, the Grange Hall & Museum, & the 4-H Petting Zoo. Free shows include The Pork Chop Revue, The Rhinestone Roper, The Cincinnati Circus, Mr. D’s House of Magic & Illusion, chain saw wood carving, a glass blower, alpaca exhibit, Magic Mike along with a stilt walker roaming the grounds daily. THE FUNDERBURG HOUSE: The 1906, 8,000 square foot, English Tudor Revival style mansion was built by Belvidere native, Katherine Rhinehart, daughter of Civil War General, Allen C. Fuller. In the late 1930s the property was purchase by Hugh K. and Alice Funderburg, owners of the Keene-Belvidere Canning Company, formerly known as K-B Farms. In 2019 the iconic Belvidere home was donated to the Boone County Historical Society and became a part of the Boone County Museum of History. Along with the generous monetary donation to maintain the property, this is the largest single donation in Boone County Historical Society’s 83 year history. Through the efforts of many, an iconic Belvidere property has become a community asset and destination. It is available for rental and tours. Currently we are accepting reservations for tours every Saturday at 10 AM & 1 PM. Private group tours are also available by request. For more information on the Funderburg House please visit www.funderburghouse.org or call 815-544-8391. See our ad on page 5
