For your safety Belvidere Township has five tornado sirens. The sirens will use the following tones to indicate weather warnings. These are used in Boone County. Neighboring communities may have other signals. Regular testing is the first Tuesday of each month.

Steady Tone: When the tornado siren goes off with a steady tone, and sounds for three (3) minutes (that is a long time), it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado warning. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted in the area. Go to the basement or nearest tornado shelter.

Tornado Watches: There is no siren signal for a tornado watch. If you get this message over the television or other media, it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado watch. Conditions are right for the formation of a tornado, but none has been sighted. Be alert for the warning siren.

Currently seeking applicants for one parttime seasonal position. The person hired will work a total of approximately 300 hours per year, mostly during the months of May, June, August and September.

Duties will include assisting taxpayers on the phone and in person (customer service), accepting tax payments (cashier), correspondence with taxpayers, data entry, basic bookkeeping, filing and other clerical tasks, and other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will have good computer skills, strong communication skills, mathematical and organizational abilities. Prior banking, bookkeeping and/ or customer service experience, knowledge of basic accounting principles, familiarity with QuickBooks and MS Office applications and bilingual abilities will all be considered in filling this position.

Starting wage approx. $15.00/hr. DOQ.

Carol Ann Erickson

October 13, 1948 - March 28, 2024

Carol Erickson, 75, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at OSF St. Anthony’s in Rockford, IL. Carol was born to Art and Theresa Damrau on October 13, 1948, in Rib Lake, Wisconsin. As the third born of seven children, Carol spent her early days working with her family on the farm.

After graduating from Rib Lake High School in 1966, she moved to Belvidere with her family, where she worked as a telephone operator at GTE in Genoa and later Green Giant. She worked there for almost 35 years before retiring in 2005. She was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed softball. As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she loved singing the traditional hymns. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, stepmother, daughter, sister, aunt, Grammy, and friend. She was known for her fierce love for her children and grandchildren, a biting wit, and her love of baseball.

Carol lived a blessed life with her husband, Dewane for almost 35 years. They met at church and became best friends, marrying in 1989. They worked hard, supported their children, traveled to visit family, and were their children and grandchildren’s biggest fans. For many years, they attended Green Bay Packer games as part of the Illinois Packer Backers. They enjoyed watching baseball together and traveled to see the Cubs at spring training. They loved supporting their children and grandchildren at sports competitions, concerts, boy scout activities, church events, and helping them raise livestock for 4H.

Carol believed in using her gifts and blessings to help others and supported many charitable foundations, mostly those that provided food, housing, or medical care to children. She demonstrated great strength and resolve, always putting one foot in front of the other, no matter what life threw her way. She battled cancer courageously for the last 5 years with her husband Dewane supporting her every step of the way. She was gracious and grateful until the end, thanking hospital staff for taking such great care of her. She lived her life with faith and love for God, keeping written prayer lists of all her loved ones for whom she prayed each night. Carol will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her, but all can be sure that she is still praying for each of them every night.

She is survived by her husband and best friend, Dewane Erickson; their children, Annette (Ken) Brown, Tom (Patti) Wickre MSGT USAF Ret., James Erickson, Christi Wickre, and Bethany-Buffy (Joe) Tangen; their grandchildren, Katie (Bryon) Coan, Jacob Brown, Tiffany Brown, Tim Wickre MMN2 USN, Tami (Dewey) Huffmon, Abby (Joshua) Anders, Brooke Wickre, DJ Erickson, Ellie Cole, Jaiden Cole, Thomas Tangen, Tabetha Tangen, and Theodore Tangen; their great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Coan, Walker Coan, Harry Coan and Alucard Coan; her siblings, Arlene Judnic, Ed (Carmen) Damrau, Diane (Earl) Weber, Shary (Terry) Yerk, Gary (Amy) Damrau, and Linda (Tim) Glenn; brother-in-law, Darrell (Donna) Erickson and sister-inlaw, Beverly (Tom) Starzynski; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Theresa (Mann) Damrau; her stepson, Justin Erickson; sister-in-law, Marie Damrau; and brother-inlaw, Harvey Judnic.

Carol’s life were on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere.

May Carol’s memory be a blessing to all who knew her.

Robert Leo Bahling

Robert Leo Bahling, 87, of Belvidere, IL went to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, March 30, 2024 (the night before his 88th birthday) surrounded by his family at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born March 31, 1936 in Belvidere to Frank and Anna (Bann) Bahling. He graduated from Belvidere High School and then served our country in the United States Army. Robert

married the love of his life, Glenda Kay Moore on November 17, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, where he was a lifelong member.

Bob worked many years at Sundstrand Aviation as a contract administrator. He felt a patriotic pride for the work he did involving the F-16 and B-1 aircrafts. He and Glenda also owned and operated Bob Bahling’s Paint & Wallpaper in downtown Belvidere. He was elected to three terms as a Belvidere Alderman and three terms as Belvidere City Treasurer. After retiring he served multiple terms on the Bonus Township Board. He also volunteered on the boards of Crimestoppers, Belvidere Keen Age Center, Parkside Manor, Ida Public Library, and Boylan High School. Bob was a Life Member of the Belvidere VFW. He enjoyed many years golfing in the YMCA Golf League, and enjoyed pheasant hunting, watching wildlife, parades, and fireworks. He truly appreciated God’s creation, and his happy place was at the cabin on Kusel Lake, Wild Rose, Wisconsin. Most of all Bob loved to spend time with his family. Bob is loved and will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years, Glenda Bahling; children, Richard (Tammie) Bahling, Andréa (Mitch) Bankord, Stuart (Angela) Bahling; grandchildren, Caleb Moore (Beth) Bankord, Lianna Mae Bankord, Brooks Mitchell Bankord, Maxwell Robert Bahling, Colton Raymond Bahling; great grandson, Grayson Eugene Bankord. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bernard Bahling, and Eileen Carlson.

A visitation was held Friday, April 5, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Belvidere, IL and Funeral Services Saturday, April 6, 2024 also at the church. A memorial fund has been established in the family’s name. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.belviderefh.com

Louis Charles Anderson

Louis Charles Anderson passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, in his home at 91 years old.

He leaves behind his wife and partner of 62 years, Mabel (Guthrie) Anderson, five children: Brenda Isaacs (Danny), Brian (Lisa), Barrie (Cathy), Belinda Roberts (Lloyd) and Brent (Amy). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 7 step-

great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

Louis was the oldest son of Earl and Marjory (Covey) Anderson. He was born on July 30, 1932. He is predeceased in death by his parents, his brothers: Leslie, Robert, and David. He was a lifelong farmer starting at the age of 12 when his father was stricken with polio. Louis served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp from 1952-1954. He was a dairy farmer and then raised beef cattle and pigs. Louis sold Renk Seed for 65 years. He served his community as a township official for 44 years, and supervisor for 36 of those years.  Louis was an employee of District 200 Schools. He was a member of the North Boone School Board. He enjoyed bowling, card games, reading, being around his family, and never met a stranger. He had a servant’s heart, was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Louis’ visitation and service was Saturday, April 6th at Anderson Funeral Home.

Estela J. Quezada

March 4, 1934 - April 3, 2024

Estela passed away peacefully at her home and is survived by children, Alejandro Quezada Jr., Diana Quezada (Gerald Puckett), Sandra Quezada (Favio Rodriguez). Grandchildren Carin Campbell, Marcus & Chanelle Quezada; Joseph, Joaquin, David, Vanessa Duran; Yesenia Reza, Favio A Rodriguez; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren

She is preceded in death by husband, Alejandro Sr.; daughter-in-law Ginger (Roberts); and great-grandson Kyle Duran.

Visitation will be held on April 11, from 4-8 PM with Rosary at 5:30 PM, Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral, Elgin, IL. Funeral Mass will be held on April 12 at 11 AM, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin, followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Elgin.
