In an effort to provide our members with the highest quality lessons with the most consistency, we do not offer make-up lessons. System credits will be granted with a doctor’s note or in extreme circumstances with the permission of the Director. Please understand there are times when instructors do get sick & cannot be in class. When this occurs, we will provide a substitute instructor.

SILVER SNEAKERS CLASS

These classes combine fun & fitness to increase your cardiovascular & muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work using hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, & a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic movements. A chair is offered for support, head to toe stretching & complete relaxation in a comfortable position. This class is designed for 65 & older.

3 POINT 50/50 CONTEST!

Show off your shooting skills in a 3 point contest/fundraiser for the Y. There will be two age groups for the contest: Young Adult 14-17 and Adult 18 & up. Winner of each age group walks away with half of the pot the remaining half goes to a capitol fund for the YMCA. Must register for the event. $20 per person. *Minimum of 20 contestants to hold event* Young adults first - Adults to follow.

PATRICK J. MURPHY TOWNSHIP YOUTH RECREATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Belvidere Family YMCA announces a partnership with the Belvidere Township. The goal of the scholarship is to increase the recreational opportunities of youth living within Belvidere Township whose families are facing financial hardship. Scholarship assistance is based on a sliding scale based on annual income. Some of the programs that qualify for assistance are swim lessons, karate & youth sports leagues.  It is on a first come first serve basis. For more information on the Patrick J. COSMOPOLITAN CLUB YOUTH SWIM SCHOLARSHIP

YMCA CODE OF CONDUCT

*Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by a parent unless in a structured program or the playroom

*An adult must accompany children under the age of 13 after 7pm unless in a structured program

*Parents are responsible for the actions of their children

*Parents with children in the playroom must be in the building

*For Health and Safety reasons TOBACCO OR VAPING PRODUCTS IN ANY FORM ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE BUILDING OR ANYWHERE ON YMCA PROPERTY.

*Program Members are limited to use of the building only during the time/area of the class they are attending.

GUEST POLICY

The YMCA sells guest passes to those who are not members. No one under the age of 16 using a guest pass is allowed to use the Wellness Center/Weight Room. Members in good standing will receive three guest passes a year. Anyone purchasing a guest pass is expected to behave in an appropriate manner, failure to do so could result in suspension of facility usage including permanent suspension.

WELLNESS CENTER/WEIGHT ROOM

The Wellness Center is available to members 13 years of age & older. Orientations on proper use of the machines and training etiquette are available at no charge for members by calling 815-5475307 to schedule an appointment with one of our Wellness Center Staff. Children under the age of 13 are not allowed in the Wellness Center/Weight Room and we ask that they please not sit in the hallway. Those ages 11- 12 who have taken the Goal Setters training are allowed. Due to liability issues, members under the age of 11 are not allowed in the Wellness Center/Weight Room.

REFUNDS/POLICIES

Program refunds by check will be granted approximately 30 days from the date of the request for the following reasons only:

1. Medical excuse

2. Bank draft error on the YMCA’s part

3. YMCA cancels class

- All refunds will be applied as a system credit unless a monetary refund is requested.

- No refunds or make-ups for classes, or programs that fall on holidays, or for weather-related cancellations, including power outages.

- We do not prorate for late sign ups.

- No refunds will be made once a program or session has started unless for medical reasons & a doctor’s note will be needed.

- Fitness classes run the first two weeks of the session. If classes do not reach their minimum requirement of attendance after two weeks, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel the class & you will receive a prorated refund.

- The YMCA does not accept postdated checks. A $30 NSF fee will be applied for any returned checks or bank drafts.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

On Tuesday, April 30th from 10:30-11:00 am a meeting conducted by Belvidere CUSD #100 will take place at 1201 5th Avenue, Belvidere, IL 61008.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the district plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities who attend private schools and home schools within the district for the 2024-2025 school year.

If you are a parent of a student who is home-schooled or attends a private school, and is also identified as a student with a disability within the boundaries of Belvidere CUSD #100 you are encouraged to attend. Richard “Dick” Dean Smith

Richard “Dick” Dean Smith, 83, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away on April 16, 2024. Born on December 15, 1940 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The son of Evelyn Imogene (Clarke) & George Richard Smith. On August 20, 1960 he married the love of his life, June, and they shared 63 years of marriage. Dick was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. His sense of humor & tricks would always make his family smile.

He retired from Belvidere Chrysler as a welder, & a member of UAW 1268. Dick was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, golf, gambling & poker. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He will be greatly missed.

He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, June Smith; their children, Lyle (Loretta) Smith, Imogene (Paul) Taylor; grandchildren, Kathy (Matt) Jaklic, Brad (Ashley) Smith, Adam Beard, Jeffrey Beard, Ryan Taylor, Rodney (Emily) Taylor; great grandchildren, Sarah, Mason, Ivy, Scarlett, Dean, Arianna, Payton & Rowan; his brother, Larry (Deb) Smith; & nephew, Matt Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, & extended family members who he loved dearly.

Predeceased by his daughter, Jo Beard; parents, Evelyn and George Smith; siblings, Ronald Smith & Joyce Smith; and nephew, Larry Smith Jr.

Richard’s visitation was held Tuesday, April 23 at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 24th at Anderson Funeral Home, Pastor David Smith officiated. Burial at Highland Garden of Memories.
