In an effort to provide our members with the highest quality lessons with the most consistency, we do not offer make-up lessons. System credits will be granted with a doctor’s note or in extreme circumstances with the permission of the Director. Please understand there are times when instructors do get sick & cannot be in class. When this occurs, we will provide a substitute instructor.

SILVER SNEAKERS CLASS

These classes combine fun & fitness to increase your cardiovascular & muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work using hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, & a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic movements. A chair is offered for support, head to toe stretching & complete relaxation in a comfortable position. This class is designed for 65 & older.

GUEST POLICY

The YMCA sells guest passes to those who are not members. No one under the age of 16 using a guest pass is allowed to use the Wellness Center/Weight Room. Members in good standing will receive three guest passes a year. Anyone purchasing a guest pass is expected to behave in an appropriate manner, failure to do so could result in suspension of facility usage including permanent suspension.

WELLNESS CENTER/WEIGHT ROOM

The Wellness Center is available to members 13 years of age & older. Orientations on proper use of the machines and training etiquette are available at no charge for members by calling 815-5475307 to schedule an appointment with one of our Wellness Center Staff. Children under the age of 13 are not allowed in the Wellness Center/Weight Room and we ask that they please not sit in the hallway. Those ages 11- 12 who have taken the Goal Setters class are allowed. Due to liability issues, members under the age of 11 are not allowed in the Wellness Center/Weight Room.

REFUNDS/POLICIES

Program refunds by check will be granted approximately 30 days from the date of the request for the following reasons only:

1. Medical excuse

2. Bank draft error on the YMCA’s part

3. YMCA cancels class

- All refunds will be applied as a system credit unless a monetary refund is requested.

- No refunds or make-ups for classes, or programs that fall on holidays, or for weather-related cancellations, including power outages.

- We do not prorate for late sign ups.

- No refunds will be made once a program or session has started unless for medical reasons & a doctor’s note will be needed.

- Fitness classes run the first two weeks of the session. If classes do not reach their minimum requirement of attendance after two weeks, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel the class & you will receive a prorated refund.

- The YMCA does not accept postdated checks. A $30 NSF fee will be applied for any returned checks or bank drafts.

Steven Dorn Steinke

SCOTTSDALE - Steven Dorn Steinke, 76, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully on December 2, 2022. Steve was born on June 10, 1946 in Belvidere, Illinois to Lawrence & Myrtle Steinke. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Jason (Jennifer) and Jarrod (Graciela); sister, Kay Templin (Darrell); five grandchildren Emma, Olivia, Anthony, Alan & Aiden; mother-in-law, Fawn Keegan.

A celebration of life, open house will be held in Belvidere on June 10th, 2023 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Community Building located at 111 West First Street, in Belvidere. Remembrance of Steve will begin at 1:30 PM.

Cynthia Hope Schmidt

Cynthia Hope Schmidt, 68, peacefully ended her battle with pancreatic cancer on May 8, 2023 with her husband & soul mate of 52 years, Gary, & her son, Bruno, at her side.

Cynthia was born in Rockford, IL on January 20, 1955 to Norma & Richard Olson. She spent her early years in Loves Park before moving to Belvidere in 1968, where she graduated from Belvidere High School in 1973. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Schmidt, on June 16, 1973. Cynthia became a letter carrier for the Belvidere Post Office in 1976 & carried for 18 years. She developed a love for real estate, & after leaving the post office, she became an avid real estate investor & author/presenter of real estate topics.

She was predeceased by her mother, Norma Anderson; her stepfather, Walter Anderson; & brother, Christopher Anderson. Her stepfather, Walt, was the caretaker for the Belvidere Park, & Cindy enjoyed residing right in the park in her youth.

Cindy along with her husband enjoyed RV life, & they visited many places in their travels. They enjoyed exploring new places & lived in Wisconsin, Florida, New Mexico & finally resided in Sedona, Arizona.

Cindy was an outgoing person who enjoyed life & its challenges, & she will be dearly missed by all of those who loved her. She is survived by her husband, Gary of Sedona, AZ; her son, Bruno (Maria) Schmidt of Copenhagen, Denmark; two grandchildren, Elliot & Mikala; her brother, Wally Anderson of Loves Park; as well as several cousins, nieces & nephews.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, May 20th at Anderson Funeral Home, 218 Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere. There will be a visitation at 11 AM & funeral service at 12, which will be followed by fellowship & refreshments at the Community Building. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her honor.
