CITY OF BELVIDERE ELECTRIC AGGREGATION The City of Belvidere participates in an electric aggregation program which allows it to seek competitive bids for the supply of electricity on behalf of its residents. Historically, this has allowed the City to negotiate electric power rates for its residents that were lower than those of Commonwealth Edison and other suppliers. Recently, the City’s aggregation agreement expired and the City entertained new bids for an aggregate electric supplier. Unfortunately, none of the bids were lower than ComEd’s rates. One of the bidders, MC2, agreed to match Com Ed rates and provide a civic contribution to the City to help defray operating expenses without using taxpayer dollars. The City awarded the electric aggregation bid to MC2. Some residents will be switched to MC2 pursuant to the agreement. Other residents will remain with ComEd as their electric supplier. The distinction lies in the MC2’s ability to economically serve individual residents. From the resident’s perspective it does not matter whether the electricity is supplied by ComEd or MC2. The individual residents’ rates will be identical and there is no change in billing. Residents always have the option of choosing their own electric supplier and are not bound to remain within the electric aggregation program.
