The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way people live. One readily felt effect was spending more time at home.

Vehicles sat idle in driveways & even some automotive insurance providers reduced rates because people were driving much less.

Even with stay-at-home measures in place, people still need to leave their homes to stock up on essentials, such as food or medicine. In other cases, people may have been essential workers who drive for a living, including delivery drivers or health care personnel who were incapable of working from home.

Any time a person goes out in public, he or she runs the risk of contracting viruses. Bacteria & germs may reside on various surfaces, including those inside vehicles. People want to protect themselves & now are more aware of the importance of frequently cleaning & sanitizing their cars. Keeping a vehicle safe to drive without affecting its upholstery or electronic components is paramount.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention makes a distinction between cleaning & disinfecting. Cleaning refers to the removal of germs, dirt & impurities from surfaces. It does not kill germs, but can lower their numbers.

Disinfecting refers to using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. The following are some ways to deeply clean & sanitize a car.

• Wash hands. First & foremost, it is crucial to wash your hands before & after using the car. This can reduce the likelihood of growing ill because of transferred viruses or bacteria.

• Use rubbing alcohol. Solutions that contain 70% alcohol are effective against many viruses & bacteria, including coronaviruses, says the CDC. Furthermore, Jeff Stout, Executive Director of Global Innovation at Yanfeng Automotive Interiors, says that, for the most part, nearly every interior surface of a vehicle can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. Plastic to painted chrome to imitation leather have been tested to ensure they don’t degrade when exposed to pure isopropyl alcohol.

Covid-19 has ushered in a worldwide time of great uncertainness & unprecedented change. Here in the United States we are experiencing the so-called perfect storm consisting of Covid-19, the 2020 Presidential Election, social unrest & violence, & literally storms of nature. Our world seems to be breaking apart - nothing is as it was just a few short months ago. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are to look at everything from His perspective or what bible scholars refer to as a biblical lens. From Jesus’ perspective, these are exciting times & the fields are ripe for harvest. From His perspective being broken is the only way we can fulfill the purpose we have been created for. This is a crazy concept if you are not a follower of Jesus Christ.

When you hear the word peace, what do you think of? The word peace & the concept of peace is used every day in the media. People frequently say “I’m searching for peace in this situation.”, “There’s no peace for the weary.”, “He or she is at peace.”, “Be at peace with the world.”, “Keep the peace.”, “Leave in peace.”, “Peace be with you.” & “Peace out!” What is peace? The world’s definition of peace is a stress-free state of security & calmness that comes when there’s no fighting or war, everything coexisting in perfect harmony & freedom. That definition reminds me of the lyrics to the very catchy Coke commercial from 1971 “I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke.”

Jesus’ teachings about peace do not line up with the meaning that culture has given us. Jesus says “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” He is telling us that peace comes from Him - He will give us peace. In the Old Testament the Hebrew word for peace is Shalom. Shalom with God is the key concept in the bible. The Hebrew meaning of Shalom has deep meaning referring to the concept of wholeness & completeness. Shalom is not just the idea of peaceful relationships between individuals & nations, but more importantly between God & humans. Shalom is the ultimate aim for all relationships especially between a person & God. Peace is a gift from God. Without God, it is impossible to achieve peace.

What are the terms of peace with God? Jesus tells us in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth & the light. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”, & in John 6:47-48 “I assure you: Anyone who believes in Me has eternal life. Ingredients - Crust: 1/2 cup butter 1/4 cup sugar 1 t. vanilla extract 1 egg 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup whole wheat flour* (if no whole wheat flour, use additional allpurpose flour 2 t. baking powder

Ingredients - Topping: 8 oz. Neufchatel cheese (reduced-fat cream cheese) or reduced-fat strawberry cream cheese 1/8 cup (2 T.) sugar (eliminate if using strawberry cream cheese) 1 cup fruit, sliced such as bananas, strawberries, mandarin oranges, peaches or pineapple Dash of cinnamon

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. 2. Cream together butter & sugar. Add vanilla extract & egg. Mix until evenly combined.

3. Add flours & baking powder to mixture. Mix well.

Dough may be crumbly but will pack down into pan. If too dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time to help moisten.

4. Spray 9x13 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Press crust to about 1/8-inch thick.

5. Bake 15-20 minutes or until cooked throughout & lightly brown on top. Let crust cool.

6. Mix Neufchatel cheese with sugar. Do not add sugar if using strawberry cream cheese.

7. Spread cheese evenly onto crust.

Top with sliced fruit & cinnamon.

Companion animals descend from wild animals & it is important for wild animals’ survival that they do not display signs of physical weakness. In a domestic setting, pets may hold onto some of these inherent traits, which can make it challenging for pet owners to know when the animal is feeling poorly. Cats are very stoic and it can be easy for humans to miss signs of discomfort or pain, according to Pam Johnson-Bennet, a cat behavior expert and author of several books on cats. Even dogs may not exhibit signs of pain or illness.

By learning to pick up on some cues, pet owners can determine if it is time to make a vet appointment.

• Lack of appetite: A lack of appetite might be a sign of various medical conditions or that a pet is in pain. If the animal is normally a chowhound but suddenly is skipping meals or turning up his or her nose at the bowl, alert the veterinarian, especially if this behavior continues for more than a few days, & if water is being refused.

• Irritability: Cats in pain may be uncharacteristically aggressive, even growling or hissing when other pets or people in the household approach. Dogs, too, may try to avoid contact or even become aggressive. Any noticeable changes in normal behavior can be a cause for concern.

• Increased sleep: Pets in pain may sleep more as they try to heal or find it difficult to move around. Shifting positions, hunching & disinterest in chasing toys are other indicators that pets are in pain.

• Vocalizations: Both dogs & cats in pain may be more vocal, either meowing, yelping, growling, or howling to indicate something is not right.
