Twenty-Eight years ago, I came to Belvidere as an answer to my continued prayer to God, & to embark on a ministry to shepherd you in your time of mourning. As I reflect over this time, I have seen many blessings in this great community. Death, as many of us know, is one of the most difficult life events, that we as humans must endure. We tend to struggle with two major facets; our human loss & separation from those we love, & our spiritual implication; that part of us that grieves. Over these years I have had the privilege to witness the love that a community can offer to the loss of one of their own. I have witnessed the outpouring of comfort from those who attend the visitation; sometimes lasting into the late of night; I watched you stand in line for hours, sometimes in the rain & snow, just to have a moment to reassure a grieving family that they are not alone on this journey of loss; that they are loved & cared for. You stand ready to help in an appropriate way to ease the struggle & pain of loss. I witnessed your attendance and presence at the ceremonies that give thanks to God for His creation & the celebration of life. I have heard your words of remembrance, & comfort to the families, & I have been touched by the sentiments of love you have shared as you remembered your loved one. I have stood with you at the cemetery, gently present as you take those first steps into a new reality. We are blessed to have such a loving & caring community.
Diann & I will continue to pray that God blesses each of you, that His grace & peace be with each of you. Never forget that you have a covenant keeping God, who promises to be with you in your storms. He promises to be with you in each season of your life. He promises to be in the midst of your laughter & in your tears, your dancing & your mourning. His love for you will never end.

Dennis Eugene Leonard, 67, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022, at his home. He was born on September 27, 1954, in Monroe, WI to the late Paul N. & Lillian (Baehler) Leonard. Denny was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, but most of all loved being with his family. Denny is loved & will be deeply missed by his brothers, Greg (Debbie), Steve (Mary), Bob (Sue); sisters, Beverly (Ron), Barb, Pat (Paul Garrett); numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Lillian; step mother, Ellen. There will be a visitation on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 203 Logan Avenue, Belvidere, IL. A rosary will begin at 7:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church St., Belvidere, IL. Interment will take place in Belvidere Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the family.
