THE BELVIDERE IOU CLUB was established in 1924 by twenty downtown businessmen to engage in charitable activities involving Belvidere/ Boone County children. The club has grown to a 50 local businessperson organization that annually hosts the Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade, First Grade Christmas Program and IOU Club Shopping Tour. The IOU Club contributes to many local youth-focused organizations such as the Belvidere Family YMCA, Belvidere Park District summer camp program, Boone County Conservation District summer camp, Belvidere Youth Baseball, School District 100/Rock Valley College Running Start Program and many other worthwhile youth activities. Since its creation in 1964, the district has preserved more than 3,000 acres of parks, trails, and preserves. Features include 900 acres in the Kishwaukee River Valley, 800 acres in picnic areas and parks, over 30 miles of hiking, biking trails, including 15 miles of the Long Prairie Trail which stretches across northern Boone County. The Nature Center/Visitor’s Center, open year round, is utilized by schools and the public. It includes a summer day camp, public programs, and distribution of a newsletter. On site there is a historic trail which includes two historic log cabins and 5 heirloom gardens as well as an herb garden, a butterfly garden & a rain garden, which peak with the annual Autumn Pioneer Festival held the fourth weekend of September. BOONE COUNTY FAIR: The 2014 Fair runs six days from Tuesday, August 5th to Sunday, August 10th. Located one mile north of Belvidere on Rt. 76, the Fairgrounds is 152 acres packed with exciting family fun with loads of free entertainment, hundreds of vendors, livestock, exhibits galore, thrilling midway and delicious fair food. Country Star Easton Corbin will headline with a 7:30 PM show on Saturday, August 9th. Corbin will be performing his latest hit “Clockwork” along with his number one hits “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With it”. Tickets for all grandstand shows go on sale starting Saturday, July 12th at 8 AM at the Fair Ticket Office at Gate 1. Serves residents within the city limits of Belvidere as well as the approximately 9,000 residents that reside outside the city limits.
Belvidere Township has 79 miles of road, 73 subdivisions with approximately 120 cul-de-sacs and 4 subdivision pending outside the city limits of Belvidere. Belvidere Township is involved in many programs throughout the year. We sponsor a Shred Day Program to destroy unwanted documents each Spring. We have a discount drug card that can provide additional savings for our residents. We provide a drug collection site for unused and outdated medicines in the summer. In 2012 local voters authorized Belvidere Township to negotiate electric rates for residents and small businesses in the township. For your safety Belvidere Township has five tornado sirens. The sirens will use the following tones to indicate weather warnings. These are used in Boone County. Neighboring communities may have other signals. Regular testing is the first Tuesday of each month. Steady Tone: When the tornado siren goes off with a steady tone, and sounds for three (3) minutes (that is a long time), it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado warning. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted in the area. Go to the basement or nearest tornado shelter. Tornado Watches: There is no siren signal for a tornado watch. If you get this message over the television or other media, it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado watch. Conditions are right for the formation of a tornado, but none has been sighted. Be alert for the warning siren.
