May 14, 2015 Paul Hamlin Company Owner Fluid Prints Company 5659 Commerce Dr. Suite 101 Orlando, FL 32839

Dear Mr. Hamlin,

The way Fluid Prints uses InDesign and Photoshop to create unique advertising techniques is something i am interested to learn about. I would like to apply for the upcoming summer because i believe I could further my knowledge of Photoshop and contribute to your business. As a high school yearbook staffer, I have become very skilled with InDesign and Photoshop. I have also learned how to successfully meet deadlines and work under pressure. I also obtain very strong people skills which allow me to work well with others in your company.

I understand the demand to make the client happy and produce a perfect product. After being on yearbook, I have learned to make sacrifices and manage my time well to finish a deadline on time and with as little mistakes since we want our book to please the student body. I am also aware of your companies polices on good morals and ethics. From being a leader on Fellowship of Christian Athlete I am aware on how to treat co-workers and clients with the up most respect they deserve.

I appreciate you considering me for this internship. I would love to meet in person to really allow me to express my skills to you directly. I have attached a resume of my experiences to further illustrate my qualifications. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Respectfully yours,

Grace Asbury

Reflections Portfolio 2015

Analytical Essay Little curly haired seventh grade Grace decided to take yearbook her eighth grade year at Conway Middle school as another elective after hearing friends say how fun and easy It was. That was one of the best decisions I made. As a freshman I decided to take Journalism I so that I could finally become a powerful and all might yerd. As I started out High school yearbook was much harder than I imagined but I never regret my decision to pick yearbook as a elective. Throughout the course of the year I experienced troubles and difficulties but I learned how to power through them. My second deadline was a challenge for me meeting deadlines for editors and Burke. I struggled getting pictures and not getting re-subbed. After that experiences I learned that I had to prioritize and start early. Also It’s my responsibility to get my stuff on time not anyone else’s. I also learned team work and how teams aren’t always a perfect match but you have to overcome those differences like In deadline five my partner was out but wanted to do It all together rather than splitting It up. I had to just suck It up and work hard with her even though she was out. Another thing learned was how to deal with hardships such as In my deadline four my topic was switched In the middle of the deadline. I had to rewrite body and reinterview and get new pictures but I spent late nights driving to editors houses and fixing my edits. Lastly this year I learned about dedication, I knew It took dedication to create an amazing book but never knew how much dedication went Into It. I learned that you have to dedicate most of your life to this book but I learned the dedication provides you with some of your best friends, a second home and a second mom! Being a first year staffer, It’s hard to figure out how you contribute to the yearbook because you keep getting re-subbed and really the editors are the main contributors to theme and the big picture of the book. Yet once that book came out I noticed how proud I was when I saw I photo I took as the end page or when I turned to the pages that I slaved over and sometimes cried over look beautiful was something I will never forget. Knowing that even my story that was re-subbed over five times and I wanted to throw away some days was printed and looked beautiful to the average reader was what made me realize that even though we didn’t help with the theme or cover design, each story has a contribution to the book. No story or quote page Is unimportant.

Deadline 4 Issues

Reflection One Deadline 4 Issues My most significant piece this school would be my deadline four on Domestic abuse. The purpose of this issue writing was to share with the student body a story from one of their own classmates. My story started out about a student getting a DUI then a week later I found out that certain student had not gotten a DUI from the student’s parent. With help my topic was switched to domestic abuse in the middle of the deadline. The story itself was very easy to write as the quotes and stories the student told me made the story have interest but the student had gone through so much that it was hard to figure out the flow of the story. I worked with our copy editor to figure out what needed to be changed and moved around so the story but sense but still had the impact we wanted. Design and photos were easy as the design was done for us and the photos were more creative and didn’t have to have two eyes and a ear. The photos were taken with help from an Editor in Chief and the Copy editor. This deadline I am most proud of because the topic was switched on my a week into the deadline but I worked really hard and many nights stayed up editing and driving to editors house to complete this deadline on time. Also this story was one of my favorites to write because it is so powerful to the reader. It shows you that you cant judge a book by it’s cover because this happening to one of your own classmates. The deadline came with many challenges but knowing how important this story is to spread the word that domestic abuse is an issue and seeing the impaction this story has, that’s why I am incredibly proud of my deadline four.

Reflection Two Y28. Student Life Spread. p 132-133 This story is an indepth on a student is abused by her mother. I feel this story shows how I have grown as a writer and it has such an impact on the community. It creates a realization that an issue like this could be happening to someone sitting right next to you.

Y16. Sports Feature Photo. p 448 “play to win. In the game against Sebastian River, Feb. 27, junior Katilyn Driskell fights through defenders to get to the goal. “I’ve always been a self-driven person, so [my drive] carries over when I’m playing,” Driskell said. The team defeated the Sharks, 10-8. photo/ Grace Asbury

This picture shows good point of interest and stands out to the viewer as she is the only player in an orange and white uniform.

Reflection Two Y6. Personality Profile. p 116-117 This story shows this student who has many piercings and died her hair many colors as a unique individual. It goes deeper into what people see when they just look at her. It is a profile on her being a different individual on Boone’s campus.
