jaecrawford.weebly.com jbdcrawford2018@gmail.com 407-867-1520 Dear Mrs. Renee Burke, I am aware that the Legend Yearbook staff will be graduating four senior editors, one of which leaves the Photo Editor position open. The position of Photo Editor, which I am applying for, requires leadership skills, knowledge of photography and commitment to the publication. I have attached my resume for you to review regarding the significant Photo Editor position. I have loved photography since a fifth grade project that required students to go out and take abstract photos of their surroundings. As a 10 year-old I had no clue what I was doing or that it would end up meaning so much to me. I would like to fill the position of Photo Editor because just like in fifth grade photography means a great deal to me and I also know I have the potential to make a great photographer and editor. The skills that I have acquired from being a part of the 2015-2016 Legend Yearbook staff that will benefit me as Photo Editor include: the ability to navigate camera settings while adapting to my surrounds, the capacity to assist and cooperate with other staffers and editors in regards to photography, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Teachpress. All of the aforementioned skills are needed to properly fill the position of Photo Editor on the Legend Yearbook staff. The Legend Yearbook is an award-winning publication with a reputation for the quality of work that is published on boonepubs.com and every May. To be a part of such a publication you need to be committed and prepared to work. My resume has more information regarding my goals as Photo Editor and my qualifications. However, an interview would allow me to better express my desire and passion for photography. I would like to met at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time. I look forward to meeting you and discussing my interest in the position. Thank you, Jae Crawford

SELF-ANALYTICAL EVALUATION

CRAWFORD

INTERVIEWS PORTFOLIO 2016 Deadline WHAT’S MINE PUBLICATION When I walked into room 224 Aug. 19, 2015 I had no clue what I was getting myself into. Of course I was aware that yearbook was no joke; however, I was not ready for what BOONE was to come. The deadlines, re-subs, photo days, wrap-ups, work days and portfolio all PHOTOS were more difficult than I anticipated. Nevertheless I have learned an abundance about journalism and myself and grown as not only a journalist but also as a person. ONE Actual production skills that I have learned throughout the year include: Adobe InYERD Design, Photoshop, camera and Mac computer operations (hard skills); I also acquired skills in interviews, communications, teamwork and people interactions (soft skills). Before this WRITING year I had no clue how to use the Adobe applications and only somewhat knew how to use a camera. TWO DESIGN Deadline one was a nice and easy deadline for my partner and I. For deadline two I was all alone and the thing I remember the most about this deadline was that I had LEAD IN to cover every awareness club and there were 10 total on campus. 10 clubs on one double-page spread. This was a challenge for me because I knew what needed to get done FOUR just not how much work was required for that all to get done. So I did not make deadline two; however, on the awareness clubs page there are 24 total people and every club was CAPTIONS included. Also the page was select as a FSPA All-Florida winner in the clubs and organizations spreads category. Deadline three was another deadline where my partner and I had THREE to include many different organizations on one page. So the main thing was trying to find HEADLINE points in which HOSA, Sports med and Magnets related to one another, and we did. However what made this deadline difficult was the miscommunication between my partner and BYLINE I about who was doing what, so I ended up doing ma jority of the page. Deadline four was an okay deadline, not great but not horrible, I remember I got re-subbed a few times for FIVE the body copy, but with every re-sub it got better. Now to deadline five, this deadline was without a doubt my most difficult deadline, I wanted to quit, not just quit the page but also quit the publication. This deadline consisted of miscommunication, a countless number of tears and re-subs and even my partner giving up on me. But that is not all, this deadline thought me so much about who I am and how to overcome hardships. I thought the spread was doomed after my partner gave up but the my junior EIC stepped in and helped me find confidence to complete the page. So I did and looking back at it the Religion In-depth is the page I am most proud of and not because of the graphics or anything flashy that people can see, but just because I know the amount of work that I put into that page and the hurdles I had to jump over. Deadline seven was a great deadline my partner and I got along well and we made a page with great design, body copy, captions and alternative coverage. What I have learned about teamwork and dedication go hand-in-hand, you need both to even stand a chance as a part of the Legend Yearbook staff. Teamwork is something that I struggled with this year and it started deadline three when there was a great deal of miscommunication and from then on I kind of had trust issues with any partner. So on deadline four I was like I can do this (meaning getting all of the interviews and research) by myself so I tried and it did not end up well for me. Deadline four made me realize that teamwork was required on a publication and I needed to get over myself and actually work with my partner. Dedication, without this quality your time on Legend Yearbook would be tough. That is because this publication is similar to a year-round varsity sport and if you thought that took a lot of dedication add sleepless nights of writing body copy and then you had the amount of dedication it takes to be on the Legend staff. As a girl who aspires to be a biochemist, the skills I have in Adobe applications might not be used; however, the skills I have gained regarding teamwork and being dedication will help me when I go to college and beyond. This publication has allowed me to pursue my dreams of being a photographer and journalist, while I will not be continuing this career outside of high school, scholastic journalism has taught me about myself and what I am capable of if I just try. I have grown as a person, journalist and student from being a part of the Legend Yearbook staff.

REFLECTION ONE

CRAWFORD

INTERVIEWS PORTFOLIO 2016 Deadline WHAT’S MINE PUBLICATION BOONE PHOTOS I am not a writer. If I was to make a list of my best to worst mastered ONE skills in journalism, writing would be very close to the bottom. With that in mind, deadline five the Religion In-depth is my most significant piece of YERD work for the publication this year. WRITING I was given the task of writing a more than one thousand word inTWO depth on religion’s presence at Boone High School. So I did and this is my DESIGN best work because of the fact that writing was one of the qualities that I knew needed work going into yearbook. LEAD IN FOUR My purpose was to take on a challenge and to improve my writing abilities. This deadline was rather difficult to complete simply because CAPTIONS of the amount of time given for deadline five is shorter than that of other THREE deadlines. So not only was I working faster than usual, but I also did not truly understand what was being asked of me. HEADLINE BYLINE The very first draft of the religion in-depth was not an in-depth at all, I had created four profiles and due to that the re-subs commenced. This FIVE process of me doing what I thought I was suppose to do and then getting re-subbed for that continue for quite a while. However at the deadline five Saturday workday I was partner less and a mess. I needed help and my advisers and junior EIC noticed that and proceeded to help me. The Religion In-depth published in the book is a true in-depth with research and quotes that tell a story about religion’s presence at Boone.

LEGEND SEVEN MULTIMEDIA The process I went through to create this was, okay it is four profiles, just kidding it is an in-depth, wait what is an in-depth, okay I can try WRAP-UP that, okay I need new quotes, I interviewed four new people with less than YEARBOOK a week and a half left in deadline, I wrote a new story and got re-subbed. Three days before the deadline I got help and was able to write an okay STAFFER religion in-depth for the book. I learned that giving up is not an option when people are depending on you and that trying something different was hard PORTFOLIO but also doable. RESUME PHOTODAY What I like about the finished product is that it is mine, no one else’s name is in that byline but my partner and I. The copy is good; however, I BEATS feel like I could have done better. Deadline five made me a better writer and GOLD improved my skills. BODY COPY CROWN MODS TWEETS ALL-FLORIDA
