May 10, 2014 8001 S. Orange Blossom Trail Orlando, FL 32809 American Eagle Outfitters Dear American Eagle Outfitters management staff: It has come to my attention that the American Eagle located at the Florida Mall is looking for staffers who connect with each customer to provide a positive shopping experience, can provide a thorough fitting room experience while delivering product knowledge and outfitting suggestions and can ensure all customers have a quick and efficient cash and wrap up experience. If so, then please accept the attached resume for your consideration for the sales associate position in which these strengths and previous experience will be of value. As an employee of Jurassic Park’s Thunder Falls Café in Universal’s Islands of Adventure, I served food, worked the cash register and assisted customers as I worked alongside fellow staffers. My background at Universal has given me extensive experience in customer service as I was constantly interacting with the guests to ensure that all of their needs were being met and ensuring that they were enjoying their time in Jurassic Park. Seeing as I worked Universal at times when the park had reached maximum capacity, this allowed me to gain experience in a fast paced environment while assuring that all guests were taken care of in a reasonably quick manner. As a two year member of Boone High School’s Legend yearbook staff (2012-2014), I learned how to manage my time well while working in a fast-paced, stressful environment so as to meet my deadline. My ability to work efficiently in a timely manner makes me a perfect candidate for the sales associate position. Although the attached resume clearly defines my background, I feel that a personal interview would better demonstrate my knowledge and skills. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you in person at any time. I appreciate your thought and review. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Respectfully yours,

self evaluation I began taking Journalism my sophomore year of high school. I heard about the program through friends who told me about how much fun being on staff was and how much they loved the adviser. I had also purchased a yearbook for the 2010-2011 school year and was blown away by how professional and creative it looked. I could not believe that high school students were responsible for making it. It made me curious about the process of creating such an advanced yearbook and thought it might be interesting to find out; therefor I emailed my counselor over the summer and asked her enroll me in Journalism I for the 2011-2012 school year. I considered my first year on staff a learning experience. I only made one deadline but gained very important life skills that would help me throughout my second year on the Legend yearbook staff and the rest of life as well. Throughout the last two years on staff I learned the importance of making a deadline. If I did not make my deadline, not only did it affect my grade but it potentially could affect the quality of the book. Meeting deadlines will help me in college and in the workforce because professors and employers will not be as forgiving when it comes to being late on a task or assignment. I also learned how important it is to be dedicated to what you do. A book of such high quality requires a lot of time and energy and often requires those who are a part of it to put in extra time to get things done. I think this will help me in the future because certain, more difficult college classes will require me to go in and meet with my professor in order to ensure my success in the class. Throughout the last two years I have worked with numerous people on each of my deadlines. This year alone I shared five out of six deadlines with a partner. By dividing the work and communicating efficiently, I was able to meet our deadlines. The experience I have with working and communicating with others will allow me to be successful when working with a peer on a project in college or working alongside a co-worker to get things done. Overall, I found that the best way to get things done and meet deadline was to set smaller goals for yourself. I found that if you are able to set small goals and meet them you will feel motivated to continue on with your work and meet deadline. I was an asset to the 2013-2014 staff because I feel that my writing skills improved tremendously throughout the year. I felt I worked well with others and contributed to the book through the stories I wrote and pictures I took.

reflection 1 I chose my first deadline as my most significant piece of work because how the overall page turned out. Although I did not take any pictures on the page because deadlines were assigned after the pep rally took place, I love the dominant picture. I was also very pleased with the story. I feel it captures students’ emotions towards the sweltering heat of the day while also expressing how each person if affected by the pep rally differently. We did have difficulty with one aspect of the page. We really wanted to use the girl in the cob but could not figure out who she was. We sent pictures to all of the English teachers but no one knew who she was. The process of identifying her set us back for pictures and captions. By pure luck I found her one day after lunch and was able to get her name. Other than identifying the girl, this deadline was rather easy to complete because the pictures were already taken when deadline one was assigned. It felt rewarding to have completed the page with such ease and set a positive tone for the year.

reflection 2 Y1: I would like this piece to represent me because I feel that it is well written and captures Boone’s strong school spirit.

Y17: I would like this piece to represent me because it is a quality picture that captures a student interactively learning in an out-of-classroom environment.

Y18: I would like this piece to represent me because it is a quality picture that captures two people interacting.

reflection 3 As I said earlier, my first year on staff was a learning experience. I struggled with balancing my time between getting interviews, taking pictures and writing stories and captions. My first year I only made one deadline and struggled making it to majors. This year I feel that I have acquired better time management skills and was able to meet almost all of my deadlines. I feel that my writing improved tremendously from my first year on staff. I do feel, however, that my photography skills did not improve much. I had more pictures printed in the book my first year. I am not sure whether this is because I took less pictures this year or if they are just of a lower quality. I also feel that you can see improvement in my portfolio from last year to this year. Last year I used basic triangles as my main design, but this year I took time to create numerous different shapes that fit together like a stain glass.
