May 15, 2015 Ashley Hawks Pastor Faith Assembly of God 9307 Curry Ford Rd. Orlando, FL 32825 Dear Pastor Ashley: After being involved with the kids ministry at Faith Assembly of God since I was one of the kids, I sincerely appreciate all of the hard work put into services and events. I would like to apply for an internship this upcoming summer to officially join the Kids Way staff and take part in this life-changing ministry. As a former elementary school student that actively participated in many of the events the kids ministry held, I understand firsthand how imperative it is that everything runs smoothly to ensure fun and learning. Having participated as a worker in Kids Camp and Vacation Bible School, I know that everyone must work together harmoniously so everything can be planned and completed correctly. Furthermore, with three younger siblings of my own, as well as sufficient babysitting experience and participation with the kids ministry, I know how to work with children. I have also been a staffer on my high school newspaper, and have learned how to rely on other staffers and work as a unite to create one solid masterpiece. Being a staffer has also helped me to improve in my communication with others; I have partaken in numerous interviews in person in addition to interviews taken via email. Deadlines have taught me to improve my time management skills. Newspaper work has also given me background on press-worthy photography, design and writing; these abilities may help in advertising, writing Sunday scripts and documenting events. I appreciate your choice to consider me for this internship, and I am very open to an interview to further discuss any additional qualifications I have or may need. I have attached a resumĂŠ to include extra experience and background I have to qualify me for this job. Thank you for taking the time to give me a chance to apply, and I look forward to hearing back from you in the near future. Respectfully yours,

Jessenia Jalca Enclosed: resumĂŠ

Self-Analytical Evaluation

Back in eighth grade, I remember sitting in my US History class and staring in awe at the paper on which I would decide which classes I would begin my high school career with. I looked it over with my friends and my parents, afraid of choosing the wrong classes. Eventually, I chose my five core classes, along with two other electives. I was down to one more class to choose, between Journalism 1 and Keyboarding. My deciding factor was the greater number of credits journalism offered compared to keyboarding. At the time, I never could have imagined what would come with a single choice to take one particular class. I soon found that I enjoyed the class; it was fun, interactive and I quickly learned a lot about journalism in a short period of time. I have to admit at first I thought it would be an easy class, but it wasn’t long before the workload increased as I got a first taste of what it would be like to join either the newspaper or yearbook staff. The amount of work was an initial turn-off for me. I already thought I was involved in enough programs that demanded a lot of attention, such as church, school and soccer. I never thought I would ever, in a million years, join staff. Eventually, Mrs. Burke convinced me, and it was all downhill from there. Honestly, I hated the class at first; before school even started, I would have to sell $450 in ads, and I struggled especially with that. I was not at all very outgoing or comfortable with speaking to people that I didn’t know, and I didn’t know where to begin for sales. But I knew what I was signing on to from the beginning, so I was determined to make it through to the end. One of my biggest goals was not only to survive to the end, but to make as much improvement as possible by the end of the year. I quickly learned the importance of teamwork, and how critical deadlines were to ensure a smooth ride to publishing each paper. Prior to joining staff, not finishing my work or not putting enough effort on it was only ever on me, with few exceptions for small group projects. Suddenly, if I didn’t get all of my work done on time, I was affecting the entire staff. Deadlines from the start were difficult for me. Never having been particularly talented at adequately managing my time, I had to learn to adjust to get my work done by the appropriate time, if not early. Although I never hit that point where I would get everything in on deadline, there were a few times that I did make it, and the satisfaction of getting my work done on time never failed to make me especially happy. I believe that learning of these valuable views of work, along with some experience working with programs such as inDesign and Photoshop, will help me in the future. I plan to use these new skills in internships, volunteer work and paid jobs. Although I have not done nearly as much work personally as the editors on staff, I feel that I was an asset, always being determined to get all of my stuff done, on time or not. I stayed after school whenever I could every issue if I wasn’t on time, or sometimes to get ahead. This class has been my closest experience to working out in the real world, and I am really grateful for Mrs. Burke for convincing me to join staff in the first place, as well as encouraging me through all the hardships in the year.

Analysis

I consider this story to be my most significant piece of work because of how much I enjoyed working on it, as well as how much work I put into it. Unlike with other stories I’ve written, I began research on this topic as soon as I got the chance. As one of my favorite topics, I scoured the Internet for as much information as I could find about the Marvel and DC Comics’ recent impact on cinemas. Eventually, I began to focus on upcoming movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics’ shared universe films - something I personally was particularly interested in and definitely excited about. I quickly gathered a lot of information, but whenever I tried to sit down and write the actual story, I would come up utterly empty-handed. I finally found a flow in my writing the night before the deadline to the editor in chief. Most of it was nothing more than listing a lot of information, but I began to find ways to connect one movie or movie series to another. I researched many actors and actresses involved in the movie productions as well. When I found out about the massive confusion and mystery lingering within Spiderman’s contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I knew I had to include him. Writing from that point was, for the most part, relatively simple. Even making most of the edits was pretty easy. The hard part came when I had to place my story in the paper; it was much too long to fit solely in the DPS, and the editors and I agreed there wasn’t much information that could be taken out. In the end, I was lucky enough to do a jump from the front, though it came at the expense of another story that was originally supposed to be on the front. That in itself is another element of this story that makes me so proud of it: the fact that it made the front. It was also the only story that I made each deadline. All of these factors are what make this particular piece so significant to me; whether it was my best story or not, I accomplished many of my goals, including making deadling, through it.
