May 16, 2014 Dean Marshall Manager & Construction Director Venture Enterprises 1316 E Michigan St. Orlando, FL 32806 Dear Mr. Marshall: According to the Orlando Business Journal, your company has grown 20% in the past year and I would like to work for a successful company such as Venture Enterprises. It would also be a great honor to gain experience from such a strong leader in our community, and I would like to apply for a secretary position in your office because I feel I could make a positive impact on your company. I understand that project deadlines are very important to you and that if you do not meet a deadline it costs you not only time, but money. Being on yearbook staff at my school has taught me that I have to make many sacrifices and go out of my way to reach my goals. It has also taught me time management skills, the ability to work as a team and effective communication skills. Creating a yearbook, I have plenty experience with other people and managing multiple tasks at once. I have written content for a certain topic, created and conducted interviews for many people and have become proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications. My experience level will make me an ideal staff member in your company because it will assist you with the overall operating and marketing aspects of your company. Thank you for considering me for the secretary position. I will contact you on Monday to assure you have received my resume and check if you have any questions. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me anytime. Respectfully Yours, Kathryn Marshall

SELF EVALUATION Entering high school, I had no idea I would be introduced into the world of journalism. When I got my schedule the first day and saw Journalism I on it, that is the very first time I figured out that I would be experiencing it. At first I thought I was just going to get switched out of it because I had no idea what the subject was even about, but, immediately, I fell in love with the subject and all its complicatedness. One of the main things I learned this year was time management. Before yearbook, I never really experienced something that had such a big pressure as a deadline. Deadlines disciplined me to manage my time by having the consequence of having a bad grade, which I really do care about. Another huge part of my year was working together as a team, learning that, in yearbook, you cant possibly survive doing everything by yourself. Without the advice, pictures or criticism, I wouldn’t have been close to being successful this year. Along with those, I learned actual design and photography skills. I learned bits of these skills in Journalism I but I excelled in both of these aspects along with learning more about both Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and the camera itself. For example, I was able to figure out different quick keys to make tasks easier and less time consuming as well as advancing in all different types of tools on both programs such as the eyedropper tool and the magic wand tool. These are things that I would have never been educated of if I didn’t ask about them or if I wouldn’t have explored the programs. Most times when you have such a large responsibility, you take it seriously and you dedicate yourself to it. Well, in yearbook, that is exactly what was required, the whole year. When you sign up for yearbook, you’re basically signing up for a job that you need to commit a lot of your time too. At the beginning of the year, I didn’t realize this and I wasn’t dedicating myself as much as need and I found myself very stressed and overwhelmed with all of the work I needed to get done in a certain amount of time. So I quickly changed my ways and started staying after in the room and working on more projects at home and I inched my way up to not being nearly as stressed as I used to be when I wasn’t doing anything out of class time. My mindset changed from lazy to diligent. Above everything else, this staff created a breathtaking book and every single staffer put some type of effort to make it the way it was. Obviously, one of those people were me and I believe I made a positive impact to the book. I took pictures that were used throughout the book and wrote either copy or captions on every single one of my pages I was assigned. One of my best tasks, though, that I completed this year was the baseball page, and I believe that was a very exceptional addition to our publication. All in all, I conclude that yearbook has positively impacted my life by multiplying my learning abilities and introducing me to new things.
REFLECTION ONE For my most significant piece, I chose my baseball page I completed in deadline seven. I chose this piece because it was the best page I have in the publication and it is the one I am most proud of. All of the pictures on this page are ones that I took, and I find that very impressive. Not only are the pictures all mine, they are also quality pictures that are sharp, in focus and they show action. This page wasn’t necessarily easy, but it wasn’t hard. By this time, I had experienced a lot about time management and knew to have my pictures ready early and have an idea on what my whole page would be about. I had my pictures early but we had a lot of pictures on our page, which required a lot of captions, meaning a lot of interviews. Thankfully, we made a list of who could be pictured or who couldn’t be so we had all the right people marked off and in the right place, either pictured or just quoted. The only bad thing about it was having to re-interview some of them because we didn’t have all of the information needed to fulfill what our editors wanted. The difference between this page and my first one is huge. During my first deadline,I didn’t manage my time well at all and I barely had anything straight. I procrastinated and didn’t work on the page to my full ability, making the page not as well as it could have possibly turned out. Opposite to my first, during my last deadline, I had pretty much everything in line. I really wanted the page to turn out impressive so I worked very hard to make it the best I could. I asked for help and stayed after as much as I could. This was my last piece of the year, so I wanted it to be my strong finish. Nicole and I worked very hard at making all the edits as quickly and diligently as possible, hoping to get what they wanted to add or subtract to the page. My favorite part of this page has to be the dominant picture. While I was taking the pictures that day with the awesome lens, I attempted many times to take a really good picture of this guy because he was pitching at the time. I tried really hard and I finally got it. At first, I only really saw his facial expression and I was even happy with that, but then I realized that the ball was in the picture and I was even more pleased. Both the ball and him were in focus and there was a great representation of depth of field. It’s my favorite part because it’s something I was focused on and I something I really wanted and I finally got it after spending a lot of time trying to get. It just felt really good.
REFLECTION TWO N29. I chose this photo to submit because the subject of the picture is in focus and captures the sports action.
Y15. I chose this photo to submit because it is sharp, the ball is in focus and his face shows great emotion.
Y15. I chose this photo to submit because the subject is in focus, his face shows great emotion. and the picture shows action.

p. 4 spring supplement I think this is a quality element because it has good depth of field, it obeys the rule of thirds and the subject is in focus.
I think this is a qualiy element because of expression on his face, and he is in focus with no motion.
Mar. issue, page 12
I think this is a quality element because it shows great action and the subject is in focus.
