Mendoza April 15, 2015 Renee Burke Yearbook Advisor Boone High School 1000 E. Kaley St. Orlando, FL 32806 Dear Mrs. Burke, I would be grateful to be apart of the Legends Ad staff again. I am hoping to be the editor of the Advertising section for the 2015-2016 school year. From staff this past year, I have learned Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. My previous year on staff would make me a perfect candidate for this position because I have experience communicating with the parents, students and businesses. I am capable of working well with others to meet deadlines. I am able to make templates for the senior ads as well keep the money organized and accounted for. Students expect their senior ads to be perfect and I want to work my hardest to give them that. I am willing to work after school and on weekends to help meet the expectations of those who purchased the ad. I am understanding and will be able to adjust the style of ads to help meet the approval of the parents or business owners. I appreciate the opportunity to be considered for this position. Attached is my resume to further illustrate my qualifications for this role. I look forward to speaking to you more in our interview. Respectfully yours,
Catherine Mendoza

Analytical Essay I got involved in Journalism my eighth grade year. I worked on my middle schools yearbook with Mr. Coryell. I had fun with it but I didn’t consider doing yearbook in high school until my friend Drew Portefield talked about it. She started staff as a sophomore and loved it. I though since I didn’t take Journalism, I wouldn’t even be considered for it but I was able to interview and join. By being on staff, I have learned so much about design and writing. I have become a stronger writer with a better eye for grammar. I also learned how to ask others for help when I’m in need rather than struggle alone. Corresponding back and forth with parents and business owners has helped my communication skills immensely. Teamwork was very important when I had a shared deadline. Water Polo was a success because my partner and I worked together by splitting up the work but also helping each other. When I was on deadline, I was responsible for getting all the work done and it helped me learn more responsibility. My photography skills have improved immensely. Before this year, I didn’t know how to work a camera on Manual. Taking yearbook has been rewarding in so many ways. I am happy to be able to return next year hopefully as a section editor. The skills I have learned in this class will help me in the future get a job, and be successful in this class again.
Reflection One I think my profile on Danny Peterson was my most significant work this year. This is because it was my first time writing body copy and captions. It was my first deadline that wasn’t senior ads. It was also the first time I had to interview and photograph a student for a story. When this deadline began, I was struggling with the writing portion but I asked for help and stayed after school to stay on time. I was able to make deadline on time even though I had been behind earlier on. I was able to turn my story back into the Editor In Chief the same day I got it back as a resubmit. During this deadline, I learned how to manage my time, which was helpful for the rest of the year. I also learned better writing and photography skills.

Reflection One I would like this picture to be submitted because it is a good sport, action shot. The water shows that it is an action shot. The player is doing the butterfly stroke. This photo also has good lighting and shows the players concentration.
I would like this photo to represent me because it shows emotion and captures the runner’s intensity.
I would like this photo to represent me because it has good lighting and shows the personality of the injured player.
