Seventeen Attn. Sydnie Goodwin 300 West 57th Street 17th Fl. New York, NY 10019 Dear Ms. Goodwin: I am applying for an art/production internship for the summer of 2014. I am eager to learn about magazine layout and design and am a hard working, conscience individual who would show a professional attitude. I have experience working on one of the top high school yearbook staffs in the country and am familiar with deadlines and the dedication it takes to get the job done. I have submitted my application and resume which include my qualifications for the job. I am extremely excited about the internship opportunity at Seventeen Magazine in art/production. I have always had a big passion for Seventeen Magazine. I will be available for a full-time summer position in 2014. I realize that I live in Florida, but am willing to relocate for the summer and can commit to a full work schedule. Please let me know if you would prefer to do an initial phone interview or any form of video chat if that is preferred. I am enthusiastic and have a love for magazines, especially fashion and design. I am a motivated and creative multi-tasker and possess great written and verbal communication skills. As a member of my high school yearbook staff I have managed to meet deadlines and work amicably amongst my peers. I am skilled in the use of indesign and photoshop and very accustomed to social media use like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Thank you for taking the time to review my application and resume and for considering me as a candidate for your summer intern position. I have attached samples of my work. I look forward to hearing back from you soon and will follow up with you next week regarding the internship process. Respectfully Yours,

Elizabeth Drew Porterfield Enclosed: resume

Self Evalutation Essay I was first introduced to publications when I enrolled into the journalism because I enjoy writing and I could recieve the art credit that I needed; I didn’t come into the course with a desire to apply for a staff. Throughout the time that I spent during lunch working on my classwork, I was able to be around some of last years staffers and watch how close they are and how hard they work. I learned more in my own class as the year went on and when the time came I decided to apply for a position on the yearbook staff. I have learned so much throughout the course of this year. My ability to meet deadline has remarkably increased. I’ve gotten a taste of how important they are now and how much they will be for me in the future out in the real world. This year I was able to actually see how being late can put you in a bad position. I’ve learned that my journey is much smoother when I stay on top of my business. Every deadline I was assigned to this year coincidentally ended up being a shared deadline with another staffer. Prior to being on staff, group work was not my strong suit. I would put more work on others than I would do myself. My deadline two was rough because I did not contribute to my partner and I’s spread as much as I should have. Since then I have learned to work as a team by carrying out my own responsibilities. The yearbook publication has been one of the first things I’ve found a love and dedication for. I’ve grown to appreciate the staff I work with and always want to stay on top of things so I’m able to keep up with them. I want to do my best so that I am able to appreciate my own work. I’ve learned that dedication creates a sense of passion and pride in a person. I was able to contribute to the staff by doing what I was told to and coming in when I wasn’t required to so I would be able to get ahead.

Reflection 1 I chose my deadline three regarding homecoming days as my most significant work. My descision revolved around the overall look of the spread and the very little amount of difficulty required to complete.

I shared this deadline with another staffer and this happened to be the only deadline I made on time. The entire process went smoothly. We were such a good team because of our ability to communicate with eachother and take on our own responsibilities. The original draft of this spread was very different from the final product. The original was missing photos and some quotes here and there. By the end of the deadline, my partner and I managed to have everything on the page and turned in on time for grading. This deadline specifically is when and how I learned the most of what I had all year. I learned about timiliness and how to avoid stress by staying on top of things.

Reflection 2

Y28: I chose this spread to submit because it’s overall appearance is striking and it has a modern edge. DM3: wI chose this news writing piece because it has new information regarding previous events and reliable background information.

Y28: I chose this spread to submit because it’s photography and and overall turn out.
