Shane Woodham Children Pastor 951 N. Park Ave Apopka, FL 32712 May 14, 2015 Dear Mr. Woodham, I am writing to you in regards to a job at Apopka Assembly of God in the Kids Factory. Your job description goes well with my experience in childcare. I have been babysitting since the age of 12. With these four years of experience I have gained knowledge in the proper way to interact with children. Being around children would be one of the best jobs in my opinion. I have gained a great deal of patience when it comes to kids. Also, I am a very organized person therefore I like to keep my environment organized. My experience and commitment to children makes me a well qualified candidate for your childcare job at Kids Factory. I would enjoy meeting you in the future in an interview to further discuss my qualification for this job. Sincerely, Taylor Roberts

Self - Evaluation I initially joined journalism because my writing was weak and felt the class would help me become a stronger writer, I never could have imagined how much the class would impact me. As a first year staffer I leave this school year with so much respect for journalism. I personally learned how to use InDesign to create a yearbook page with secondary coverage, body copy, captions, folios and pictures. There was deadlines that I struggled with because I was new to the grading system and balancing my priorities. I learned that it takes dedication to be on a yearbook staff, there were times I had to sacrifice going out with friends to stay after school and work on my deadline. When writing stories I also learned how to properly interview someone by carrying on a conversation which gave me better quotes for my story. To stay on deadline I would create a checklist at the beginning of class as to what I needed to get done that day, then evaluate my progress at the end of class. Setting goals helped to keep me motivated and guide me along the deadline. Being on the 2015 Legend yearbook staff was an honor. As a staffer I tried my best to contribute in any way possible. I was at every workday, never missed a photo day, stayed after school when needed and if any other staffers were in need of help to get something for their page I helped if possible. Many of my weekends or week nights involved me getting photos for yearbook.

Reflection One My issue page on marijuana was my favorite deadline and also one that came the furthest. Covering an issue for the yearbook was hard because I have my personal opinion towards the topic but must leave that out. The angle an issue story is written in is different than the sports stories or the student life stories I wrote this year. I attempted to my best ability not to give away who the story was about, while still covering how marijuana affected their life. Also, I struggled with trying to make the story not sound like I was promoting marijuana because the students quotes were all positive towards it. One of my favorite things about this page besides the design is the angle the story is written in.

legend: Describe your favorite part of this season. oliver: Just getting to play around my teammates and having the underclassmen look up to me. L: Why did you start playing baseball? O: It was in my family; both my brother and dad played here. L: How do you push yourself in practice? O: [I] work hard. What you do in practice is how you will perform in the game.

peace, glove, baseball. At third base, senior Quentin Davis crouches to catch a ground ball. “My favorite part is just being able to come out and have fun with the guys every day. We’re all like brothers now. We love to joke around with each other,” Davis said. Davis hit two home runs.

wind up. Before a game, senior Cooper Jeffers warms up his pitch. “I do my best job of contributing to the team by throwing ground balls and letting my defense behind me make outs, we all try to push each other to the best of our abilities and try to be perfect,” Jeffers said. Jeffers pitched 33 strikeouts.

DRIVES comeback down in the game, the team worked to earn the win

In the April 8 game against Timber Creek, the Wolves came out strong at the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs, putting the Braves behind, 1-4. “One thing Coach Post always says is, ‘Play all seven innings,’ and by that, he means, no matter what inning we are in, we should be [giving] our best effort,” senior Robert Simmons, first baseman, said. The boys redeemed themselves at the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs and bringing the score to 5-4. They scored two more runs in the last three innings, winning 7-4. “We had to play our best. Just because we were down did not mean the game was over yet,” Simmons said. In the Spring Break Slam on March 23, the boys played the Apopka Blue Darters, defeating them 4-3. “[My favorite moment this season was] beating Apopka during the Spring Break Slam because they were the team that knocked us out of the playoffs last year,” Simmons said. As first baseman, Simmons led the team in putouts. “[I know] that it is my job to pick up the mistakes the other infielders make on throws. [It is] not so much pressure, [but it’s] knowing what my coaches expect out of me [as first baseman],” Simmons said. Simmons contributed to the team with his play on the field, but he struggled the most with hitting, which he focused to improve in practice. “My hitting was my worst weakness, and in order to fix that, I had to take thousands of swings,” Simmons said. “That’s baseball. It is a game of 70 percent failures. So considering that, practice is the only thing that can fix [my weakness].” While Simmons pushed himself to better his batting average, others worked to improve their pitching. “The only way to fix [our pitching] is through pushing ourselves in practice and knowing that if the other team is putting out 10 reps, we have to put out 11,” Simmons said. This mentality helped lead the boys to a winning season (19-9). They beat Freedom in the district semifinals to advance to the district championship, but lost to Dr. Phillips, 3-4, in nine innings. | content by katie marshall and taylor roberts, design by morgan muhart “““““““The Hagerty [basketball] game because the atmosphere was intense.” christopher jones, sophomore
