Bethany Johnson Walking Dog Company Owner 1628 Montcalm St. Orlando, FL 32806 Dear Mrs. Johnson, Over the past few years I have started to figure out what is important in my life and where I want to go. Joining your business as a dog caretaker, is a step I want to take in learning new skills and gaining experience that I can apply to my life. Furthermore, I would like to apply for your open position as a dog caretaker for your local business. During my time as a staffer at William R Boone High School’s national award-winning yearbook, I have learned dedication and have developed a strong work ethic that stretches outside the yearbook room. I have learned how to efficiently work with others and under an authority figure while managing the pressures of completing tasks in an allotted time period. These qualities and my enjoyment of dogs encompass me as an employee and best qualify me to join your business., as I am eager for the challenge. As a junior varsity cheerleader, I have learned how to work with others towards a common goal and how to manage my time between after school practices, games, and yearbook hours. I have learned how to give back to the community by volunteering and how to positively affect my peers and fellow teammates. I would like to thank you for considering me for your job position opening. Attached is my resume with an in-depth list of my qualifications. I would love to schedule an interview with you that fits your schedule. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Respectfully yours, Sydney Schad

SELF-ANALYTICAL P h o n e : 4 07 - 5 0 6 - 7239 ESSAY Email: schadsydney@gmail.com T w i t t e r : @ s y d n e y _s c h a d Since I was six years old I had always been the cheerleader. I grew up on All-star Cheerleading competitions, giving up my weekends and having practices three or four times a week. Imagine my surprise when my freshman year at Boone High School I stopped being the cheerleader and signed up for the Journalism class offered to push and challenge myself. The Journalism class would test and teach me working environment skills and how to work with others on a common goal. At the time, I did not know what I was getting myself into but was slowly eased into the yearbook world, I completed the Journalism class and was faced with the decision: Should I apply to be on the Yearbook staff? I knew it was a big commitment; Saturday workdays, after-school hours, and lots of work, but I knew I was ready for the challenge. After I made the decision to join the yearbooks staff, I completed an interview, where I was calm on the outside but extremely nervous on the inside. I soon received the news that I had been selected to be on the next years staff and then weeks later attended the summer camp which introduced me to what next year was going to be like. In the following school year, my deadline one and two, went smoothly. I learned the ropes of how different yearbook writing was and what I need to do for each deadline. Deadline 3 proved difficult. It was my first deadline with a spread and I was doing everything for the first time. I had to design my page, complete more interviews, take pictures and learn how to work with a partner. I initially struggled with the design and finding students to interview. My partner and I slowly got the hang of it and ended with a great page that I am very proud of. Overall the struggles on this deadline taught me the importance of being patient and how to overcome difficulties. Over the course of the year I learned how to use the programs Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign and utilized them in every deadline. Using those programs, I have learned how to design pages and edit pictures, both being the basis of being a staffer. Next year I hope to elevated my basic skills and improve them to use in next years’ yearbook. Not only did I learn production skills from being on staff but I also learned dedication. Throughout the year we had Saturday and Thursday work days and after school hours that taught me how dedicated you need to be to make something great. I learned to always do my best and to try my hardest, and that no matter whatever you go through, you can learn from it. Throughout the year, my goal was to become apart of something great, to be something great, and I can proudly say I did. Being on this years staff with continue to impact my school and work skills, and I will cherish the memories we had as a staff.

REFLECTION ONE I consider Teach in, my deadline three spread to be my most significant piece of work this year. It shows my ability to write interesting body copy on an academic event and how to take creative pictures. This deadline proved a challenge from the start that I had not yet been exposed to. I had to push myself out of my comfort zone to find and work with faculty and students to get information I needed to accurately depict the event. I was expected to work efficiently with a partner when frustrated and I learned how to understand and apply another perspective on a common piece of work. Because the topic of “Teach In” is not typically a known idea read by common high school students, I put a pressure on myself to make the page a must-read. I wanted students to enjoy reading a piece on an academic topic, and overall the page completed what I wanted. Our first design of the page was the basis of what went into the book but it was tweaked and edited to create the final product. There was a debate on which pictures to use, trying to find a balance between pictures of students and adults. We wanted to focus more on the pictures on students, but we knew we needed to incorporate the adults because they were a vital part of the event. Overall, we agreed on which pictures to use and the deadline continued. While writing the body copy, I struggled to describe the events of Teach Tn because I had not participated first-hand in the event, I had only visited a few classrooms to take pictures. But, with the help of my partner, teachers, and Mrs. Burke I pulled the story together, accurately depicting the events. Because of the deadline I learned to request information regarding the event I am covering to be better prepared for any questions I had. One of my favorite parts of the finished product of the spread was the layout of the pictures. They mended together and created a visual of what occurred at teach in, because of the pictures I feel like the readers were exposed to what the students were seeing at the event. I particularly liked the photo of the girl taking a selfie with the dog; it incorporates taking selfies, a modern term into the classic high school yearbook. Although I did enjoy the layout of the pictures, my favorite part of the spread was the body copy. Not only because it was my main job on the deadline but because I really liked the way it turned out. I loved the way the headline pulled the reader in, using the bold word “kick-starts” that readers do not see most often. I pull of the pink used in the headline created a visual flow that I really enjoyed. I focused on taking the event: Teach In that is unknown to a lot of students and making it possible for them to appreciate and understand what occurred at the event. Giving them the insight of what students were exposed to.

REFLECTION ONE: DRAFT

REFLECTION ONE: FINAL

REFLECTION TWO Y28: Student Life Spread: One I enjoy this student life spread and want it to represent me because I like how the different alternative sports were pulled together to create a harmonious spread especially because it can be difficult because the sports are so unique different in their own ways.

Y23: Information Graphics: single This is the secondary coverage piece from my alternative sports page. I enjoy this piece and want it to represent me because I like the design and the way it is laid out. It is a simple design and it accurately represents gymnastic moves and is interesting to read.

Y16 Sports Action Photo I want this picture to represent me because it is a fun picture and depicts how excited and how much the dancer was enjoying dancing at the competition. The caption of this photo is: Sophomore Abigail Jones dances on stage at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in the regional competition. “[The most difficult thing about being a Bravette is] mastering the dance styles that we have to perform,” Jones said. Jones focused on her pom technique at the regional competition.
