When I was a freshman, I read the yearbook and thought about all the work that was put in and I admired everyone that contributed. My desire to be on yearbook only increased sophomore year when my sister was accepted onto the newspaper staff. Although they are not the same class and they have different responsibilities, they are part of the Boone Publication team and I got to observe the daily activities of these students. After school, I would wait for my sister to finish her work and I would quietly watch all the teenagers working hard to meet their deadlines. I love the atmosphere in the publication room and wanted to be part of the fun. I have learned so much in the course this year. My knowledge and expertise about deadlines have increased immensely. I made six out of seven deadlines throughout the year. Last year, I only made one deadline and I struggled throughout the year with time management and trying to make my deadlines. This year, I learned how to properly manage my time effectively and to be a responsible staffer. I have also learned about dedication to the book. During the band season, I went to every game and competition to try and get the best pictures possible. I believe that the band page was my best photography, and I can only attribute that to dedication. Lastly, I learned about teamwork. In deadline seven, I worked with another student and I had to work hard to try and make the teamwork flow. It was difficult but I knew I had to power through and out effort into working together as a unit. By the end of the deadline, I learned so much about teamwork and working together with other students. All these skills will be helpful in the future because deadlines, dedication and teamwork are all important factors in the real world. All of these skills will help me thrive in an adult job. I was an asset to the yearbook staff because I worked hard to make all my deadlines and I always fulfilled my responsibilities. No one ever had to do the work that was assigned to me and I always tried my best to help people in need. I also added laughter and humor to the year.

To me, my most significant piece is the Marching Band page. This page was very difficult to complete but the final product was very satisfying. My purpose for this piece was to make deadline and to construct a page that would reflect the best light on the Sound of the Braves. The pictures for the page did not evolve very much because I was happy with the pictures I took form the beginning. The body copy, on the other hand, evolved very much. It improved highly from the very first draft that I turned in. Taking pictures was difficult because halftime shows are very short and the field is dark. The best pictures I got was from competition pictures. I learned that you have to plan early and start thinking about the next deadline before it starts. I went to many football games and practices before my deadline even began. It was a great learning experience. I love this page because of the photography. The pictures I took were all great quality and I am very proud of it. I also loved the body copy because it flowed well and was interesting to read.

Y15: Sports Action Photo I would like this photo to represent me because it is great quality and their is action going on. The swimmer is in focus and he is very clear. Also, the lap lanes serve as leading lines. I just love this photo of mine.

Y1: Feature Writing Student Life I want this copy to represent me because it flows very well. I think the quotes were great to support my writing and I think that my copy was interesting. I enjoyed writing and reading this body copy.

Y18: Feature photo I want this picture to represent me because it was the dominant photo on my band page. I loved my band page and this was the best photo I took. The quality is great and the player is in focus.

This class has been a massive learning experience for me. Over the last three years in this classroom, I have learned an immense amount of knowledge about InDesign and Photoshop. I have grown this year because I made a more visually appealing portfolio. In the beginning of my first year, I was nervous and I wasn’t sure that I could handle this class. I never felt like I was truly cut out for the yearbook staff. This reflected in my first portfolio. I played it safe by making a simple portfolio that I knew I could accomplish. Over the last two years, I became more confident and comfortable with the techniques. Over the span of the last year, I learned more InDesign tools and became more comfortable using these skills. The first year, I only used a stamp for my design. It was the most simple design that a staffer can create. I was unsure that I could make anything more creative of that and I was nervous to push the boundaries. Also, my writing was full of fluff. I added information that was not necessary and I needed to get to the point. This year, I have a more intricate design. Granted, it is not as complicated as other staffers but I believe that I have grown from last year. Also, I have learned to write more compactly. I learned to get to the point and focus on what is important. Also, looking at my clips, I am much more proud of my work in the book. I love my pages and I think that my yearbook skills have grown. I am 1000% more proud of my contributions to the book this year. I cannot believe my growth in the classroom over the last three years.
