Welcome to 4th Grade Room 264

Dear Parents, My name is Laurie Cichocki and I will be your child’s 4th grade teacher this year. I’m looking forward to an exciting, productive year working with you and your child. I am returning to the classroom after having served our East Aurora School District in a variety of roles over the past 25 years. I have had the opportunity to teach both 3rd and 5th grade, develop and implement the BOOST enrichment program and most recently contribute to the advancement of our district technology initiatives as our K-12 District Technology Integrator. It is with renewed energy and enthusiasm that I send this letter as we await the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. I firmly believe that your child will receive the best education when you and I work together as a team. In the spirit of getting off to a good start, I’ve enclosed some important information that I’d like you to look over carefully. On the reverse side of this letter, you will find a copy of the 4th grade supply list that was distributed in June. I am including a list of supplies (italicized and marked with an asterisk) that your child will need in addition to the general list you have already received. If you have not purchased your general supplies yet, I can help you cross a few things off of the list. I have a class set of scissors, highlighters and glue sticks, so you will NOT need to bring these into school since we will be sharing these items as a classroom community. Could you see to it that your child has ALL of his or her school supplies labeled BEFORE the first day of school? In addition, it would be very helpful if all of the pencils were sharpened ahead of time. Please do NOT purchase a backpack with wheels. Since we are on the 2nd floor, they do not work well on the stairs, and they do not fit in our classroom cubbies! I will be keeping in close touch with you all year long. Communication from me will occur in a variety of ways. In addition to phone calls and personal notes, I will utilize my teacher web page to share up-to-the-minute information about things happening at school and in our classroom. Our classroom blog will be used for giving voice to what the students are learning and how they are learning. More details will be provided the first week of school. In the later part of August, I will be sending your child a welcome letter. At that time, I will be requesting that your child bring in a family photo for our “Wall of Fame”. In the meantime, would you take a moment to help us become better acquainted? I have created a confidential, online questionnaire. It can be found at http://bit.ly/parentQ Thank you for your time and attention. I hope this will be a special year for your child and for us as partners in education. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at anytime throughout the year at lcichocki@eastauroraschools.org

Yours truly,
