Carter has cultivated a vast collection of artworks that represent the excellence and diversity of American Art. From acquiring historical works of art to commissioning living artists, the Carter has remained steadfast in its commitment to not only tell the history of American art, but to actively nurture its future.
The Amon Carter Museum of American Art
The Carter was founded in 1961 by siblings Ruth Carter Stevenson and Amon G. Carter Jr. as a fulfillment of their father, Amon G. Carter Sr.’s vision to allow everyone the ability to experience the diverse and unique stories of American art. The Museum’s collection began with Carter Sr.’s personal collection of artworks by Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. Since then, the Museum’s collection has expanded to include artwork by 4

is not only home to the artwork, but also one of the most comprehensive American art research libraries and archives in the country. To celebrate 60 years, the Carter is hosting a fun, free Birthday Bash at the Museum on September 25 from 4 to 10 p.m. This must-be-at event will feature activities for all ages. Guests will have the opportunity to become the artist by making their very own party favors with Carter Community Artists, go on a guided tour of the Museum and learn background information on artworks and exhibitions, and enjoy live music on the lawn with DJ Ronnie and Austin native Shakey Graves. The Carter’s 60th Birthday Bash will end with a spectacular fireworks show on its lawn, overlooking the Fort Worth skyline.
