My daughter was a student at Desert Sky before we decided to get into this business. We felt it was important to keep this type of program open in Santa Cruz County. Our goal is to help every athlete become great individuals, not only do we teach gymnastics, tumbling and cheerleading, we also teach self-confidence and social skills,” said Owner/Head Coach Bania Hecht.

Desert Sky employs seven trained and certified coaches. Athletes are trained to achieve a high standard while, reinforcing confidence, coordination, selfesteem, and social skills in a structured class environment. Athletes have the opportunity travel to many in-state and out-of-state competitions representing Santa Cruz County. “We start our athletes at baby gym where they play, sing and make friends. Then they move to our structured classes where they learn gymnastics, tumbling and cheerleading plus other important skills such as: responsibility, teamwork and discipline. Once they have aged out of our program they have the opportunity to join our coaching staff. We have seen many athletes grow up and become amazing individuals,” said Owner/ Head Coach Bania Hecht. Gymnastic instruction helps children and youth develop better coordination and body movement. Gymnastics is beneficial as it helps improve overall coordination. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics children and youth who engage in sports develop socially and physically. Young children at an early age, who participate in gymnastics learn important social skills like listening, following directions, taking turns, being quiet, and respecting others. Also regular participation in gymnastics teaches children and youth how to live a healthy lifestyle, and remain involved in sport they grew up with. The gymnastics teachers work hard to build social skills with their students because they are so important in other aspects of the lives of the little ones. “We keep our athletes involved in the community. Our athletes collected coats for local children in need last year that we donated to the Nogales Unified School District. We also have our athletes participate in the Alzheimer’s Walk,” said Bania Hecht.
