WHEN YOU’RE BUYING OR SELLING PROPERT Y . . . IT HAS TO BE BSPC
BSPC People . . . who’s in-house? Each issue we get to know a BSPC professional from one of BSPC’s member firms and this week we are speaking to - Jill Borthwick from Cullen Kilshaw Tell us about your role within Cullen Kilshaw?
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What would be your ideal holiday?
I manage the Selkirk Branch of Cullen Kilshaw. I am a Qualified Paralegal in Residential Conveyancing which takes up most of my time and I also deal with all the Selkirk properties that we have for sale.
I really enjoy doing the conveyancing and helping clients to buy and sell, I love engaging with the clients and helping them through the whole process – it’s really rewarding seeing clients pick up keys to their first property or sell their property really quickly.
Can I choose two?! I would love to go back to Cuba where we went on our honeymoon 12 years ago. We also took our son to Orlando in 2014 and it was just amazing, I can’t wait to go back there in the next couple of years
What keeps you busy when you’re not at the office?
Although it sounds boring, I would have to say my work. I started with Collie & Company as a 19 year old Office Junior. I completed my Paralegal course and passed my exams whilst working part time and having a 2 year old who did not sleep which was hard going at the time but worth it.
How long have you worked with the firm? I have worked for Cullen Kilshaw since May 2014. Prior to that I worked for Collie & Company for 14 years. Cullen Kilshaw took on Collie & Company’s business in May 2014.
My 9 year old boy has a better social life than me so I spend a lot of time taking him to his various clubs. I also play bowls during the summer and love to go out walking. I have recently started running again, although not very far! My absolute favourite hobby has to be clothes shopping though!
Where’s your favourite place in the Borders? I love the Three Brethren, I haven’t been up there for about a year and am desperate for the Spring to come so I can venture up again. The views are tremendous
What’s your greatest achievement?
What’s your favourite Borders eatery? Most definitely The Woll at Ashkirk, fabulous food, lovely location and a great children’s menu as well. Something for everyone.
Who is your favourite author/ artist or designer? I have read all of Marian Keyes’ books and also enjoy reading any fictional crime/thrillers, especially Harlan Coben
Tell us about your home or dream home? My husband and I bought a new house in September 2015 which ticked all the boxes for us. We are working away at it at the moment and I think that when it is finished it will be our dream home! It’s a traditional semi with a garage and drive and a huge garden.
Name two things you can’t live without? Aside from family, as I am on a health kick at the moment my iphone and my Fitbit!
What’s playing in your car right now? Adele’s new album 25, I am going to see her in Manchester soon. I think she will be amazing live.
What natural talent would you like to have? I would love to be able to bake. Every time I attempt something it ends in disaster. I can’t even seem to make chocolate crispies properly! I would love to be able to bake cakes, scones etc. and not have to bin them!
