BSPC People . . . who’s in-house? Each issue we get to know a BSPC professional from one of BSPC’s member firms and this week we are speaking to - Ruth Davidson from Hastings & Co Tell us about your role within Hastings & Co I’m based in our Selkirk Property Shop, and can be anywhere from Jedburgh to Oxton, Galashiels to St Boswells! There is a great amount of variety to my job, which I really enjoy and daily tasks see me taking our clients from the valuation stage, right through to the marketing, photography, viewings and offers.
How long have you worked with the firm? Since August 2014.
What do you enjoy most about your job? I love not being tied to a desk; constantly meeting people, travelling round the Borders to a range of properties, anything from one bedroom flats in the middle of town to idyllic countryside estates. I do get major house envy though!
What keeps you busy when you’re not at the office? My main hobby, which takes up a lot of my time, is as an active member of Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society – musical theatre and nothing too high brow, but plenty of drama! I’ve been involved since I was 16 and had some fantastic roles. I also love most anything to do with cooking; blogging, hosting my friends and family . . . eating!!
Where’s your favourite place in the Borders? Braeheads, St Boswells – since I was a wee girl growing up in St Boswells I’ve always loved the views across the golf course, Tweed and towards the Eildons.
Tell us about your home or dream home? I love older, character properties and conversions – mills, barns, cottages - anything with original features, beams and room for a woodburning stove.
What’s your greatest achievement? I was self employed with my own business at the age of 21; which was an invaluable and amazing experience which has taught me so much about business, people and life.
Name two things you can’t live without? Coffee and a Friday night G&T!
What’s your favourite Borders eatery? We are spoilt with an amazing selection of eateries in the Borders . . . but out of them all I would have to say my mother-in-law’s kitchen is bad to beat! She is a an extremely impressive cook and baker! I’m not big into sweet things, but The Court House in Selkirk make fantastic cakes – our office favourite for a Friday!
Who is your favourite author/ artist or designer? Lynn Rodgie and Hazel Middlemass – both fantastic landscape artists from the Borders.
What’s playing in your car right now? What would be your ideal holiday?
Radio One live lounge.
Hmmm, something that blended a broadway show in New York, a beach in the Seychelles and Apres Ski in Whistler? Not much to ask!
What natural talent would you like to have? I would love to be able to visit a country and speak their language fluently.
