BSPC FEATURE PROPERTY
Sun-drenched gardens and glorious views are only a Thrushes Mead is an easy house to fall in love with at first sight, having seen no further than the very lovely garden and mesmerising views of the Eildon Hills. And that’s exactly how it was for Caroline and Sean Grant when they bought the three bedroomed property ten years ago. “We were captivated by the southfacing private garden and the setting, which is only a five minute walk to the River Tweed and ten minutes walk into Melrose,” says Caroline. Perhaps it’s just as well the external factors were so strong, as the interior of the house when Caroline and Sean bought it required upgrading.
Built as a bungalow in the 1950s, it had later been extended upwards by a previous owner to create a two -storey home. The Grants have completely transformed the interior to create a contemporary family home that is light, bright and in pristine condition throughout. This time round it’s in ‘move in’ condition, having had the spacious dining kitchen replaced within the last year, both bathrooms have been refitted, and they have added a utility room off the kitchen.
The layout includes a welcoming hall with attractive sanded and varnished flooring and a small but useful under-stair study space. Off the hall is a good-sized living room with a delightful inglenook fireplace and open fire and front-facing windows overlooking the garden and beyond, to the Eildons. There is also a sizable formal dining room with French doors opening into a conservatory-style garden room with verdant views on three sides and French doors linking directly to the rear garden.
