Picture-postcard appeal and a super-stylish interior are the hallmarks of a charming cottage in the village of Paxton
Only a mile west of the border with England, the picturesque village of Paxton in Berwickshire is surrounded by farmland and bordered by the River Tweed and the Whiteadder Water. Linking Scotland and England is the nearby Union Chain Bridge, which when opened in 1820, was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge in the world – the first vehicular bridge of its type in Britain – and remains the oldest suspension bridge still carrying road traffic. Paxton is also home to Paxton House, a historic country house built between 1758 and 1766 notably with interiors by Robert Adam as well as furniture by Thomas Chippendale. Open to the public, the house is now a partner gallery of the National Galleries of Scotland.
